Arnett , what happened to your plans to attend school in Indiana ? I have been checking with Sage schools and Carter Express in Anderson, IN. Carter pays for the school if you work for them for 1 yr. No loan or payback.

They have nice looking Volvo trucks and automatic transmissions and haul a lot of car parts.

Just thought I would share that.

Basically I was unable to obtain the funds necessary that would allow me to attend here in South Bend and pick the company I wanted to drive for. I have driven before many years ago and just really needed a refresher course and to learn the new laws if any for drivers. As far as then, you know I never came across them in my research, I guess I didn't dig hard enough. I must have looked at about a dozen or so companies that offered to "pay" for my CDL training, even created a big spread sheet to look at all the companies at one time. But you know I am not upset with my choice, I have not really found anything bad about this company and all my Driver friends can't say anything bad about them either. So it sounds like I may have picked right for once... Drove for Schneider back in the day wasn't a great experience, but it was good training.

    Aug 27 2014 Day 8 Week 2
Today we spent some time in the classroom...got to get those hours in. We also, was the first day of driving with the trailer attached. Now I have hauled stuff behind my car/truck etc in the past but when you put on 53 feet back there it makes a BIG difference. You have to be careful, and one is nervous, but we all got thru it. More practice doing pre trip

Morning spent pretrip and backing backing backing, after lunch out on the road, we each got to drive about 60 miles in all kinds of traffic and streets. Going down the interstate is pretty easy leave enough space, etc and you should be good to go. City streets are interesting, as they are tight to get turned, I am sure we will all get much better at this. As a class we all get along good so that really helps.

    Aug 29 2014 Day 10 Week 2
Morning in the classroom and about 10 were back on the road, lots of practice today, and each day you start to get and feel better, but you still understand this is a big unit and alot of respect is needed, you need to really think ahead and listen to the instructor...that is key. Week 2 draws to a end. I cant believe what we have all learned over the last 10 days....Week 3 is tons of driving..

    Sept 2, 2014 Day 11 Week 3
This will be a short one, today is our night driving class! Here is how it works we went in at 0600 today corrected our week 2 test, about an hour in the classroom. Rest of the day was out on the road, we actually took empty trailers down to Miller Brewery in Milwaukee, now this is a BiG sTeP up its tight down there but all did well, we know we have alot to learn and Chris did a great job with us, less is more slower is faster really does work. Off at 1600hrs and return at 0200 yep 10 hours off just like the big boys, it will make for a quick night but were all excited after this it is really one day left Friday is my personal testing day for my State License at 1400 hours. We all did get a call from our 15000 mile trainers today...kinda like a blind date, you know the call is coming you just hope it is someone you can stomach for 5 weeks. I dont think there will be a problem everyone I have met so far at Millis has been great to talk to and more than willing to help. Oh and today we had a bad electrical hose and connection, right into the shop and 20 minutes later all good FIXED. Great Service, now I know they jumped right on the Student Rig to keep us going but not one of them #####ed etc...

    Sept 3,2014 Day 12 Week 3
Well were are almost at the end of school. Today was a long day as yesterday we got done at 1600 hrs and had to return at 0200 today, yep 10 hours off. As a group I would say we did pretty good, we spent the entire day driving...night driving is of coarse way different we spent the entire night time on the back roads and it is very clear to see how easy it is to overdrive your low beams at even 50 mph, again less is more slower is faster...I can not say enough how glad I am that I picked Millis for school. We have had tons of behind the wheel time. In 3 weeks 2 of us have gone from ZERO truck time to feeling pretty good about double shifting, backing for the most part, and driving....no dont get me wrong if you have been reading these post you know we understand we have only the tools, and it will take a lifetime to master the trade. We understand that there is a huge difference between getting the truck down the road and doing it the right way! At Millis they are teaching you the right way. We got done at at noon so 20 hours on duty in the last 2 days...we have 2 days left, then we have the weekend off and we switch from MTI over to Millis employees. On another note I did talk to my trainer who I will call "R", as I stated I am not sure if I want to name names of employees and students, I have named Chris as he is the "FACE" of the school at Richfield. Anyways I had a great talk with "R" and I am feeling good about our time together. He drives a T680 (new) fully loaded micro, inverter, fridge etc...cant wait to start that part but I have to focus the next 2 days to pass my state exam on Friday.

Well we are one day from being done with the truckdriving school. Today was another start at 0600 and right to the road, we spent all day taking turns driving, in the Milwaukee area very heavy traffic we delivered a few empty trailers to Miller, the day flew by...Friday is practice and I take my CDL "A" test, I feel pretty good about it so I will let you all know...
