I can already tell you that answer. Going straight pay for this year, switching at the beginning of the year.

Any specific reason for that? Usually better to go per diem the 1st yr with millis to get the extra week vaca, then if you choose, to switch to straight pay after 1st yr. I know it's a big argument on this site bout straight vs per diem but that 1 extra week vaca your 1st yr is pretty nice.

Doesn't per diem pay better like straight pay is 31 cents and straight pay is 36 cents I'm also not getting insurance so throw in that extra penny lol

No per diem pays .31 and straight is .36 but per diem .10 isn't taxed. Like I said there are bunch of threads on here about which is better. For me I pay child support so per diem is obvious but for others it's just a personal choice. You will get many answers on which 1 you actually bring home more on. Best thing to do is try it 1 way then try it the other and make your decision. It's just that with millis if you choose per diem from the start you will get a weeks vaca after 6 months and being a new driver that week off can be pretty needed.

But with per diem they have mileage bonus's that if you are over 3000 you get an extra .05 a mile. Put it like this I'm on per diem and for the year with my mileage bonuses and safety bonus etc on my pay stub I'm averaging just shy of .40 a mile for the year.

If you pay support then you want to choose per diem. It lowers your gross income so therefore your so your support shouldn't be super high. I pay support for 3 kids so bringing home 800-900 is a great week for me but I avg closer to $700. Considering I pay $300 a week in support that's pretty good lol. Again my 1st yr with Millis and I'm on pace for $53-55k. Bonuses don't have support taken out of them so hose are real nice weeks lol

Man I hate child support lol I got one down and one to go. My daughters isn't court ordered tho she 14 maybe I could sweet talk her mom into working something out but that usually means.. Nevermind I will pay the child support yuck lol

OK, here is my corrected post. I am going straight pay. I have been self employed for about half of my working life. I already itemize, and was self employed until I went to school. I will be going with straight pay to finish out the year, because I already have to itemize. It's easier for me and my accountant. What you didn't see, because my internet bailed on me, was my correction. I am going straight pay. Here's the deal with per diem. I am so GD tired of reading posts from uninformed people. IF you choose per diem...yes, you get few perks. HOWEVER....there are other things to take into consideration. You'll get an extra week of vacation. Personally I don't care. You'll get a bigger safety bonus. Again, don't care. Here's what you don't know about per diem. Per diem is a tax deduction that the IRS already gives you. The current rate is $64 per day. NOW....part of that includes lodging, which you already have. So, what the IRS does is allows you to take 80% of that as a daily expense. It includes food, showers, and laundry, to simplify it. That's $50.40 a day, folks. If you incur lodging expenses, you can deduct that (hotel room when your truck is broken down and your company wasn't able to arrange it). Also, anything that you buy for your truck like CB, Navi, etc are additional deductions. It is an ABSOLUTE MYTH that you need to save receipts for daily living. The government just gives you a very easy standard deduction to make it easy on you. Since you will be filing with that deduction, yes you have to save a couple receipts but how hard is that? It'll just be things for the truck that you need, equipment-wise, and any hotel bills. If you can't manage to do that, you're lazy, period. You worker's comp benefits will go down if you choose per diem. Your SS benefits will go down. Your reported income will go down, and that will hurt you if you want to get a loan. I've been self employed for a long time guys. Trust me on this, you don't want per diem. Not trying to start an argument. Do what is best for your personal situation. I'm staying away from it.
