Downtime? Whats that? If and Owner/Operator has downtime, you can't pay him enough to train you to break his rig, when that happens all on its own.

Best you go to truck school and pony up the $$$, if you want to drive a rig.

If your in MPLS. a farmer isn't far away..Read the` want-ads,or drive down to Rosemount,(or wherever)and knock on some doors if you have to,explaining your situation..Work for a farmer hauling grain for $10-$12 an hr,he will be happy for the cheap labor, you get some experience..

While I as a driver know how to prevent myself from doing this, it is kind of hard from the passenger seat to stop you from snapping the truck into gear, letting go of the clutch too fast and leaving the driveshaft behind you on the ground.

I understand the reason for you wanting to do this, but in all honesty, I would not volunteer my rig to teach you. It is what makes me my money, if it breaks, I don't eat. But that is just my two cents.

everyone thank you for your feedback.

i do know how to work manual transmission in 4 wheeler and im sure it is very different in semi tractor. i envision this teaching happening something like this: is that i would watch you do a few pre trip inspections and you explaining the whats and whys then you having me do a pre trip in inspection a few times until you felt i had learned everything, and while i am seated in the passenger seat i would watch you drive through various environments and explaining whats-whys-whens. as far as me driving i would think some practice in parking lot would be okay to try - backing, turning, etc. but as far as going out on the street is concerned that would be up to you if you felt i was ready to but it isnt absolutely necessary.

again thank you all for input.
