I am working for a company, id rather not say the name but i have had a few minor accidents 3 to be exact, the first one was while i was in training, i had been driving with a trainer for maybe a week in school, my trainer took me down a military access only road and i had to make a tight right hand turn that had a telephone pole on the corner, i looked to make sure nothing was coming in the other lane before i made my turn, i made my turn and seen oncoming headlights in the distance, i was going at a turtles pace trying to correct the trailer from being in the other lane but did not have time to, the car hit the back end of the trailer, how some one misses a 53 foot trailer is beyond me, i dont know for sure if they wrote it up as my fault or not i didnt get a ticket,
the second incident was i was making a delivery by myself and the paperwork did not have north or south for which dock to turn into, so I went to the north dock first it was on a dead end street, after talking to security he told me to turn around in the parking lot and go to the other lot, i was watching my right mirror to make sure i didnt hit a yellow pole and when i looked in the left the tandems bent a chain link fence post over a little bit, not much but a little bit maybe a quarter of the way over, no big deal, the security gaurd told me that was not the firs time it had happened, they took all my info, no cops involved, and i made my delivery,
the third happened a bout a week later, i made a delivery to the shipper i was supposed to be picking a load up from, I made my drop, and went to check on the load that was supposed to be ready, I tried leaving 12 hours early so i could take my 10 hour break but low and behold the load i was supposed to be picking up was not ready, so I did not make it to where i was going till after midnight, I was able to get about 3 hours of sleep before the drop, after they got me unloaded it was 7am i called dispatch and they told me they didnt have a backhaul ready for me yet just to hang out, I went to the TA to get something to eat, i was just trying to find a parking spot that was not too difficult to get into since i was extremely tired, none in the front or middle part of the lot so i headed toward the back, I made my right hand turn a little too sharp and the right rear part of the trailer in front of the tandems hit the front passenger side of a parked truck that no one was inside of, I called dispatch they said call the cops, which i did, the driver of the other truck was not too upset, I didnt get cited on that one either,
I have been driving since december 2010 and been out on my own since about the 3rd week of feb, my question is will all 3 of those show on my dac report? and would they be considered as preventable accidents? and what are my chances of getting on with a different company? I ask that because they sent me through more unpaid training and said i could not file for unemployment and that was almost a month ago, i have bills to pay and nobody seems to care, any suggestions to what I should do? they havent told me how much longer this training is going to be, thanks in advance

All of those seem to be preventable.I do not see how you were not charged hitting a parked truck in the TA. Whether they will show up is uncertain. All you can do is wait it out and see what happens. My advice is to look for another line of work, seems like trucking might not be your best choice.

they may have actually fired you...for being at fault...
face it, you screwed up..you were NOT paying attention....sorry but your chances of getting another job now are none to none.....
go back to school and RE-LEARN EVERYTHING, or find employment in another industry...
your company as you say, "nobody seems to care" about sums it up...you are so screwed, it's unbelievable.....trucker_101 Thanks this. -
3 preventable accidents, minor or not, do not reflect well on you or the company you drive for. Especially in less than 4 months, that would make a 4 wheeler and their auto insurance skyrocket, I'm sure its no different for the company to insure you in a CMV.

Until you learn how to drive I would take every turn as wide as possible and watch your mirrors. You can always back out of problems. If in doubt, get out and look. Even now If I see a strange place I'm not sure about I'll get out and walk and see what I couldn't see before.
Yes, that stuff will hit your DAC. Yes, the company can make you pay for damage if they wanted too.
What they can't do is force you through training with no pay. They are pulling a fast one on you. I know, either do it or get fired. But what they are doing is wrong and any labor board would eat them alive. You have rights to quit and can draw unemployment on that alone if you had 180 days in which it don't look like. But I doubt you'll find another chance to drive for someone else. You're in a tight spot.
You need to decide if you are cut out for driving. That's an awful lot of mishaps in a short time.newbiemaybe Thanks this. -
I think the big questions here for you are:
1) Do you still have a job if you complete "unpaid" training?
2) Is this type of work important to you.
If you KNOW you can answer yes to both of the above questions, it might be worth it to go ahead and go through the training. It is obvious that you need more training that what you have already had.
OTOH, if you can't answer yes to the above questions, then why waste your time doing it.
Something else to think about here. Are you a person who is "accident prone," or is this just one of those weird things that can happen. Or actually I guess it is three of those weird things that can happen.
Since we don't know you, it's pretty hard to try to advise you. If you are a careless person by nature, then you don't belong in this business. But anybody can have a streak of bad luck. And when you are new, and you screw up, the pressure mounts. You haven't proven yourself yet, either to your company, or to yourself.
So every mistake you make adds to your frustration. Which then makes it more likely that you will make mistakes. It feeds on itself, and it sounds like you need to do something to break the cycle. Maybe this training will help.
I know you have bills to pay. But if you aren't working at all, you can't pay those bills either.
Good luck with whatever you decide to do.
OH, one added thought here. One company that I used to work for, had in their safety training manual, that the chances of having a major accident just skyrocket if you have had three "incidents" close together. Just keep it in mind.newbiemaybe Thanks this. -
Go home...some things are not meant to be.
Rerun8963 and outerspacehillbilly Thank this. -
I think i would get out of trucking...seems you have a issue with the trailer running over things...hang it up before you hurt someone..
outerspacehillbilly and Rerun8963 Thank this. -
I hear that all the fast food restaurants are hiring. That might suit you better.
Rerun8963 Thanks this. -
Stick with it! Those minor accidents mean nothing! If you persist, you can work your way up to the "Big One"!
