I have a physical scheduled for tomorrow.
The Schneider rep that set it up went through a script at the end of our conversation:
"You have agreed to a DOT Physical with Schneider International. If you cannot attend the physical please call us as soon as possible. This is a reminder that failure to attend the physical will result in failing the physical and will be placed on your DOT Record."

    Man are they serious!
It would be nicer if they could have found a physician that wasn't almost 100 miles away.

Also...when I am scheduled for orientation I have to catch a bus 150 miles from here.
Why did they do that when there is a Greyhound terminal 15 miles from here, and several in between?

First off they are correct if you don't take the physical and drug screen it is considered a "no-show" according to DOT policy. Next off they are probably having you go to one of their terminals to catch the bus since they tend to charter a bus for several people instead of a bunch of grayhound tickets.. I have just completed their training in Greenbay so if you have any questions feel free to ask but let me warn you if you have a CDL they will find a way to keep you there for 2 weeks for the training. I saw many guys get kept for the 2 weeks! Feel free to send me a message or an email if you need to know anymore!

If you ask me, it sounds like you can call them if you can't make it and reschedule, you just can't be a no-show without informing them.

But...... You may be right because once they set it up they don't want you to miss it becuase you need to clean your system out first lol.

I had a job once where they said, "Do you want to be hired now or do you need a few days? If you are hired now, you have two hours to arrive at the drug screening building and sign in."

Failure to show up for a DOT Physical isn't the issue . . . it's the drug screen. It is exactly the same as a refusal to take a drug screen or breathalyzer test, a BIG no-no.

Trucking companies need drivers CONSTANTLY yet devise ways to eliminate potential drivers, hmmm.
Schneider is the company or one of the companies that has/have REQUESTED foreigners for drivers instead of local drivers, so go figure.
ANY trucking company that wants a potential driver to attend a visit at a particular medical facility despite the fact that there are closer facilities available, to me evokes evil intent and is not advisable.

Since schneider states that "one can call if one cannot make the appointment", how then does this effect a "failure" on a drug test??
What if through no fault of ones own, one is involved in a traffic accident while enroute to the facility?
Is one then considered as a "no show" or would the above be considered as a viable reason?

I've never before heard of anyone being "charged" on their DAC/USIS as a no show or as a "failure to complete a DOT physical" simply because they could not make the "scheduled" appointment.
I've never had to call a facility to reschedule an appointment yet if I need to I certainly will and if ever I am charged/labeled with/as a "failure", I will most certainly fight it!!

ALL "scheduled appointments" are open for RE-scheduling as WE ALL know when arriving for "appointed times" for pick ups and deliveries, so how can this DOT physical venue be different?!

Just another reason to QUIT driving OTR or even local.

BEst of WELLness 2-u-n-urs-n ALL (ad)ventures!!

I was talking to one american truck driver, he said he failed the drug test, but he never takes drugs. And he said, that a lawyer told him that nothing can be done to prove that the doctor was wrong. So now the only job he has is at some bad company that pays him very little.
    I don't know... that's hard to belive.

Failing a drug test when one doesn't use drugs is the fault of the testers and not the testee.
Were I to be informed of a failure due to drugs I do not take or use, I will demand (of course at my cost) a RE-TEST and we'll see then who is lying.
For a "lawyer" to state nothing can be done is wrong and verifies another useless "lawyer" as there ARE so many of them.

I sure don't know what you base that on. While I am sure that there may be drivers working for them that may not be what some would call, true blue Americans, I have yet to have seen any evidence of such a policy.

That's simply a matter of choice. Personally, I've never had this issue crop up for me, but when a company is paying the bills, they certainly have every right to dictate who they choose to do business with, just as you do.

If I wanted a job, and was asked to travel 75 miles for a drug test, I'd have a decision to make. Is the job worth the ride? Maybe or maybe not. I'm sure there was a reason why this was asked.

I'm sure that all factors are taken into consideration if something like that happens. In the case of a pre-employment drug screening, there is no time constraint requirement mandated by the Fed's for reporting to it. Just the same, I'd be prepared with a contact number before leaving the house and would call them immediately after calling the police, and would offer full proof of any delay if asked for it. I've yet to see a police report that did not establish the time of an accident. A copy of that would clear up all doubt.

That is a bit unusual, but they have a every right to establish the rules they want prospective employees to follow. The goal, I assume is to surprise the physical alcohol and/or drug screening on the applicant, in order to weed out those that want to time their drug use to favorably pass a screening at an expected time. With little warning, that's not in the cards. It's a time saver actually. One who thinks they are not going to come up clean will not show. Case closed.

If it's a written company policy and declared up-front to you, and you allow them to make the appointment and don't show or call with a valid reason for not showing in advance as the policy requires, I'm sorry, but you wouldn't have a legal leg to stand on.

It can be different, if they establish a written policy making it so. I'm not saying it's right or just, but they retain the right to make it their policy. As with anything regarding the rules and regulations, they can be more restrictive, but not less restrictive than the minimum requirements of the rule.

And of course, that's still everyone's choice in this nation. We don't live in Russia. We can still choose any job that we want to take, as long as the employer will put you to work.
