I recently picked up a load and was suppose to drop off at dollar general DC in Jackson GA. My truck broke down right after I picked up the load. The broker was notified and said to deliver once the truck was back on the road. I am now stuck with the load because the next available appointment is exactly a month from when I picked up. I tried to take it back to shipper but they said they wont take it unless authorized by the broker. Broker is saying if I do take it back they will put me on the "freight guard" list. What are my options since? I cannot wait a month with the load in my truck and cannot take it back to shipper.
Missed appt for Dollar General DC bc of trucking breaking down.

1- Write the broker and the broker's customer an AGGRESSIVE email stating that you will charge a storage fee if the matter is not resolved in a timely manner.
2- Advise the broker that either they reschedule or you will drop the trailer at the receiver and run power only for that month.
3- Threaten the broker that you are going to contact his customer to advise them that the broker won't allow you to fulfill your obligation, thereby harming the parties involved.
4- Take the load back and then excoriate the broker on social media. Also contact the shipper to let him know what happened and why it happened.
It is obvious that the problem here is the BROKER because the shipper passed the buck back to HIM. I can understand them fining you for being late. But holding on to the load for a month IS NOT an option. -
When I was at Landstar I had customer refuse load because it was not on lift gate trailer and they had no way to unload 53 van. I called Lancaster agent/broker. He went around with customers saying they did not request a lift gate 53 van.
The Landstar agent/broker told me to take load to LTL company like roadway (he called in advance and set everything up). They would unload my trailer and deliver the load later like 3 weeks. So you might be able to get a LTL company to take the load and deliver it later for you. I don't know how much it cost, but it might be option.Lite bug, Old_n_gray, asdf1234 and 1 other person Thank this. -
get on up to the Cross Bronx, and open the doors, and walk away for like 3 minutes, then go back, it'll be empty.

Shipper don't want it back because it's sold and gone.
Broker doesn't want to help, because again, it's sold and gone.
Dollar General, on the other hand, ordered it because they wanted it.
Call them.
By the way, there's a pretty nice truckstop about 2 miles away from that location.asdf1234 Thanks this. -
I’d be unloading it at my house and let my wife stock up what is usable and sell the rest and move on with other loads elsewhere. Could be some good stuff in there to prep with.

My gut says advise the broker they have 3 hours to have a solution, at which time you'll put it into storage at their expense, plus your time and labor to offload and reload it.
Given lumpers get obnoxious money for that, use their numbers as a base.alds, Graham Cracker, TheLoadOut and 2 others Thank this. -
Don't forget to not use that broker again, they should be kicking in doors to get you unloaded so they can book you for the next one.
alds, Graham Cracker and asdf1234 Thank this. -
Can you take out your wallet and pay someone off?
I gave a loader fifty dollars last week for loading me a day early so I could get south before a big snow storm hit.justcarhaulin and Lite bug Thank this. -
Ive seen liquor loads that were late to state facilities be turned away and rescheduled for a month or 2 later. But we knew of that possibility before we took the loads as well... In our situation there wasnt much that could be done as a bad winter storm shut down pretty much every way across the western Plains.
Dave_in_AZ and asdf1234 Thank this.
