    Hello everyone,

i passed my skills test and road test with flying colors, but my son just so happened to be born on the day my class did map reading and log book sessions. ive never had a reason to use a map as a car driver in the past so i really dont know how to read one. I have an idea of how a log book works but never practiced and dont really know what im doing.

my question is, when i choose a company to start with, am i going to be dismissed as soon as they find this out or will most trainers work with me to teach me as we go? I do plan on buying an atlas and attempting to figure it out before i go for training, im just trying to get an idea on what to expect, any help wiould be appreciated, thanks.

Any training company should conduct a class in, at the very least, basic map reading skills. They'll certainly coach you on how they want logs done, as every company has their own quirks and requirements.

If they don't, make sure your trainer DOES. After all, that is just a small part of what a trainer is SUPPOSED to do.

Two very important parts of the career that you missed.
See if there is a makeup class or a classmate that can get you up to speed.
Lacking these essential skills could make for a hard start.
    Best of luck to you.

    roadrunner2012 Thanks this.

I just got done with student orientation at Roehl and they would work with you on both skills. The importance of the skills depends on how much the company does for you. At Roehl, you are given the safest and best course to drive and they use electronic logs. They still want you to understand whether or not a route is safe and legal and need you to understand logging so you do not run into issues with hours of service, etc.

You tube has videos, just go and search for how to do a logbook

Map reading is easy, routing is another animal all together.

If you go with swift their are classes on it, some are even mandatory (that pisses me off so much that I gotta do it and don't get paid)
