I'd love to get a set of those screens, but $50? Really? They're plastic for God's sake.

I made my own from window screen kits they sell at hardware stores. A lot cheaper and do the job just as well.

Good idea, but I have a KW with those day windows or whatever they call them, so would be tough.

It isn't really a mistake but I get a kick out of watching rookies run through every gear empty or bob tail. Couple guys that just started with the company I work for do this. I'm like, dude, you can start out in a higher gear and you can skip gears. One guy asked me, "Is that allowed?"

I was stuck down at the old Alpha Beta.in La Habra ,ca . That's way back.. And the trucks would run through all the gears in about 200 yards.. Thought I saw it all. Until this guy was running the gears then BAMB he dropped the trailer, and kept on going with his air line just spitting out air..

Your post makes me laugh. My trainer had a hissy fit when I skipped gears. I'd driven for years skipping gears, floating, coasting and applying brakes when approaching stopped traffic... then I had the joy of being "trained" in the "mega" way. Ah... the joy of reentering the world of trucking.

And they put everything on google. This happened at the end of the 80s early 90s. Bet they also didnt tell you about leaving an empty van in the parking lot either.. You would come back with a load in it.. Of garbage from New York . Or the problem with people pulling out the peep window and spraying either, or through your open vent into your cab .

Knowing you're a rookie: Taking the Ether through the vent story as fact, or without some level of doubt..

Either the ether gig is the "boogeyman" story old timers tell newbies to scare them, they heard from a guy who knew a guy, or criminals decided to stop this practice with the advent of the Internet so there are no news articles to search for incidences.

If someone would like to give me a link to a news article where an incident like this has been reported by a news organization, I'd welcome it.

Links to trucking forums and blogs need not be submitted. Also, the phone number of the guy who knew a guy will not be necessary.
