mistakes that let everyone know youre a rookie

When I started I had an old cabover with a 5x4 transmission. I cant recall how many times I got the linkage bound up trying to shift it, and had to crawl underneath to untangle it. Then I went into a truck with a fifteen speed, and I always forgot to put it in low range when I went to take off. The truck would just bounce up and down. lol.

 

Apologizing too other drivers for killing their time on my muckups when i seen them. 7 Years in the business now, I don't care and not in a rush.
See rookies everyday and never try to show impatience. When a rookie apologizes to me, change the subject to a positive.

Huge yard.. Surprises me someone would have issued maneuvering there..

 

You dont have to be a rookie to make mistakes. After 3 years pulling flatbeds its easy to back up to a dock then realize that you forgot to open those big swinging panels on the back of that 53 footer.

 

Don't worry so much what other people think of you. The guys that judge or criticize new driver are the ones that are less likely to help others. That makes them just another ### hole behind the wheel.

 

Aint that the truth. Most real oldtimers, for lack of a better term, will help or answer questions when asked.

 

Complain about dog lamps, being a rookie item.
