Do any of you use a mobile/portable document scanner with a USB connection to your laptop??
What is a good one, and is it worth it to buy one to be able to collect all of your recites and also be able to e-mail them in at the end of the week???
Thank you

I have a Canon Pixma MG5220, and it's great. We use Transflo, so I scan in my trips with it (if I'm not at a truck stop which has Transflo... still quicker to have them do it). It's also handy for those instances when the customer only gives out one copy of the BOL, and I need to make a copy of it for the customer. I think this one was around $100 at Best Buy... I'd need to look at the receipt again.

I just bought the Canon 495 also. I've had mainly HP and one Lexmark. I'm very pleased with the Canon product.

I used the cheapest scanner printer I could for the truck. I've had both HP and Cannon. For what you need it for they are the best as it's mainly the scanner I used to be sure I had copies of everything that passed through my fingers and it's what I've been preaching here in TTR for 2 years!
They will take a beating in the truck. The cost for a cheapie is about the same as ink refills! I just bought a new scanner printer about every 2 refill as the heads would get out of alignment and the "repair" program can't handle that kind of alignments!
There are a few scanner and printers made for travel for the laptop. They are a little pricey but they both will fit into their own case. Google laptop scanners and printers. Cannon has a set.
Anyway, get what you can afford and don't put a bunch of money into them, as, like I said they will take a beating in the cabinet of the cab. Get a long USB cable and you're set up ok. I wouldn't print something unless it's a must have and not just for a file copy. File copies just keep on the hard drive and also back up with a flash drive or an external or one of those on line storage servers.
Keep the receipts for it as you're using it for work and that makes it, the laptop, ink, paper and anything else such as programs needed for work a GPS and anything else you use in your job tax deductible.Another Canadian driver Thanks this. -
we've had 2 HP all in one's 1st one ($45 at walmart) lasted 4-5 years 2nd one ($60 at walmart) is three years old and going strong
only downside with HP is some will not work on an invertorAnother Canadian driver Thanks this. -
Is it good to be able to print?? Or is it better to just be able to scan? I am trying to look at this to have something that is as compact as possible.
I see a lot of small document scanners to just scan things with, but is printing that important?

Flood, I was an avid HP consumer until my 11 month old laptop crashed. I spent about 6 hours on the phone with an arrogant Indian. They had me taking it apart like a technician before I could even send it in. They repaired it and sent it back. And just out of warranty it crashed again. It didn't matter they just fixed it, I was screwed and they wanted $300 the second time. I said you should of fixed it right the first time, see if I buy your products again.
HD, you can just scan to a folder and print out as necessary. Most documents like BOL's and trip reports you save for just in case. It keeps your truck from being cluttered with paper. There is very little need for printing.
The Canon 495 at Walmart for $59 is compact as they get. Plus I like the software that comes with it. It has photo editing features I use alot. -
this is why we have an all on one
