I have had my Palm Pre Plus for almost a year now, and the other day I found a story on CNN about Mobile Hotspots. I called Verizon right away and found out my phone can do the same thing at no extra charge. All I had to do was turn it on and link up my PC. I can kick myself for all the times I paid for wifi when I had it all along for nothing. Thank you CNN for the story.

has that been a good phone for you? I almost got one, but everyone I've talked to says they fall apart after a few months.

I have the Palm Pre and love the hotspot. Make sure your in verizons network when you use it. I used mine in an extended network and got hit with $85 charge. Fyi, I have had my phone for about 7 months and it is working great. You have to be gentle with the touch screen though. It is sensitive.

Sprint has disabled this feature on all phones.
The only two you can do this with now is the Epic 4G and HTC EVO

Verizon had this deal out with the Palm Pre Plus, but they ran out of phones last month. You can still get it on the smaller Palm Pixi. They have a hotspot app on them, using it is free, you're capped at 5 gigs and the standard $.05 per megabyte charge is added if you go over. All their other Android and Blackberry based smartphones that have this feature charge an extra $25 a month. Their Mifi is a pretty good deal too. It's $50 a month for 5 gigs, but the overage charges are only $10 a gigabyte.

Great phone, and I never have a problem with it. I'm with Verizon and my monthly bill is about $200. I can call and serf the net anywhere in North America, plus the hotspot is included. I need this because I run Canada and the US. It's cheaper then a Canadian phone.

I use Easy Tether on my Droid.
Verizon wanted to charge me 20 bucks a month for the mobile hot spot and then it was limited to a certain amount of data and then huge fees per minute. I can't believe they get by with these practices.

EasyTether shares your Android smartphone connection with your PC. This app allows you to tether your Android to a desktop or a notebook computer. EasyTether uses exactly the same data plan that is used for the on-phone Internet access like in the built-in browser or e-mail app or youtube application. No additional tethering fees.
