I'd look into buying a tractor and leasing on with a company if I were you. You should have no problem making that with the amount of experience you have in the industry. Good luck!

 

Our solo truck grosses 5-6k weekly. The team truck grosses 8-9k weekly.

With your experience level, you should have no trouble. Just make sure you don't haul freight that doesn't pay your bills!

 

And reality is that it is not about the gross it is about the net. How many guys do you know that talk about grossing $5k on 3,500 miles pulling a van. A lot. But they are netting less than $2k and in most cases less that $1.5k.

 

Yes, I guess trucking is a popular second/ follow-up career for smoke eaters and road docs. I knew/know lots of guys that drove before, during and/or after firefighting careers. I start school in Jan., where did/do you work?

If an o/o running 600 miles a day 5 days a week @$2 per mile will make $6000 gross per week or $24000 a month. 12000 miles a month with 7mpg. 1714.29 gallons of fuel will be used. fuel cost @$4.9 per gallon will be $8400 per month. Earnings after fuel expanses is $15,600. Considering tax deductions 30% earnings after tax come out to be $10,900. Not bad is it? Pls. correct wherever I am wrong.
