So by your standards, I should get a microwave, tv, car, couch, etc on so called credit, pay 7 to 30% interest over however many years, so i can "afford to buy a house" on credit hoping I don't lose my job... becoming a slave to a company that might go under?

Going back on topic. Anyone on the road should have access to a decent amount of CASH. Not a credit card, not a debit card, CASH. $500 will get you into a hotel on a below zero night or other calamity.
On top of that, they should have access to a reasonable emergency fund. For a driver, that's whatever it takes to get home from anywhere in an emergency, and then take care of the emergency. $5,000 should be the minimum. 10K is better. 20K is probably about right for a lot of guys, but 30k makes me almost feel warm and fuzzy.
No, a credit card is not an emergency fund. It doesn't pay for your emergency, it mortgages your future. What if your emergency means you're off work for six months? Think your credit card will understand you not making payments? How about your ex-wife? Think she's good with not getting child support?
Until you have your walking around cash and your emergency cash, you are broke, you are busted, you are in the pour house, and you should act like it. Good credit isn't going to fix your broke arse. Only cash fixes broke. -
I am sorry, I can't argue with someone who thinks spending thousands now is better than saving thousands now and later.
