I couldn't even tell the difference in fuel used with or without a moose guard on.

If I owned a truck it would have a Herd Guard on it... No ifs, ands, or buts about it. First time it saves a hood and radiator and the down time to fix said damage it will have paid for any and all expense incured from bumper and loss of fuel economy.

How closely do you monitor your fuel economy?

I'm betting he files Ifta reports every quarter and calculates the exact fuel mileage based on miles and fuel purchased...

I will just say this, if the amount was of any significance at all, I would have been aware.
