Nothing in this world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not: nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not: the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent.

Not trying to start an argument, but very few company drivers can make what a good IC driver makes each week...drvrtech77, freightwipper and Jonkie Thank this.

You would have to make the argument that a good company man could clear over a dollar a mile . I've yet to see that gig but give me a heads up if any of you do. That said , I like being the boss , with some control over where and when I run . That's the best aspect for me . I had a paid off 2001 international but the maintenance ate me up , I ended up swinging a motor for 30 k in 2009, that was a rough year . Depreciation and write offs is where you make up that payment with less maintenance on a newer unit

It's 100 owner op . Different size units from cargo van to straight truck to E Units ( tractor plus a Fedex 53). The ' basic ' division is Surface Expedite which for me pays a base of 1.50 a mile plus FSC ( so around 1.63 pm right now ). I'm waiting on a reefer trailer so I can do TVAL loads ( temp validation ) which gives you the option of flat rate ( 1.95 pm I believe ) or 55 % of the gross ( Fedex isn't cheap and the material I've received averages it out to 2.10 pm plus FSC although in talking to people it can go much higher ). Pretty good fuel discounts esp at TA , average 40 cents off per gallon . They just started a load board that allows you to option loads up to two weeks out , similar to LS but mainly dispatch is through a load offer system , you get phone calls or offers on your Qualcomm which show pickup , delivery. Weight and pay . You can then accept or reject or let it expire . Basically you have 10 minutes or it times out . Once you win the bid you can advance up to 45% of the pay when you pick up . I wait for the load offers because all DH is authorized ( at 1.00 a mile plus FSC) , if you take one off the board the first 150 miles of DH are paid . I run team and I've been offered over 500 miles in DH paid on loads ( to get me out of places like Laredo). 500 dollar minimum to turn the key ( so a short mile load , an airport run , a cross dock , etc pays the truck a minimum of 500).

Oh and you can use an outside broker on their list , there is a back haul team that will help you get home if you can't get a Fedex load to where you need to go or you can book it yourself off the list
