I'm just getting started on this journey! My wife and I have talked about it for years and now we are ready to take the plunge. I've worked most of my life in construction or other driving jobs. We homeschool our 5 kids and my wife is on board. She was a single mother before and we understand the first couple years may be hard and she may be on her own for most of it. But we live in Washington not far from Seattle and I've been told it's a good place to be for the opportunity of more home time down the line depending on which company I go to. My wife and I have been reading all the reviews and all the forums but I'm even more confused about hat company training I should try for. I do not think teams are for me but of course I am willing to put in what I have to for a good job. I have a clean criminal record and a clean driving record. Is there a company that might be a better fit for someone in Washington? I would like to stay in the western states but am seriously open to anything. I'm hoping to really go for it in my first couple years so we can finally purchase our farm. ####, even just being home weekends eventually would be great! Any advice? Or company suggestions? Yes, I know what I'm getting into with company training. But I think its the best route for me right now! Thanks!
More confused than ever! Can't choose a company to train with!

@Chinatown may be out of town!
Chinatown and TROOPER to TRUCKER Thank this. -
Your best bet would be tankers. Look up all the companies that run in western Washington and call them and ask about their policies concerning experience for new hires. If you go with any company in a team operation you won't see your wife for weeks at a time.

You need to do some more research. If you live in WA and intend to keep living in WA you must go to an approved training school to get a WA CDL.
The only schools approved thus far are:http://www.dol.wa.gov/driverslicense/cdlapprovedschools.html
The only training company I see on that list is Swift. Not only would I not recommend them, but by all rights Swift should not be on that list. WA state requires 160 hours of CDL training. Swift's crappy training falls far short of that.
As far as any training company, I would do all I can to avoid working for one. And by all means, I would never put myself in a position to beholden to one for the crappy training they provide.mlefler Thanks this. -
Make sure you know what you want. Then look for what company will fit.If you want home on weekends don't settle for anything else you can find that company.Starting out basically all truckin companies are pretty much a like with little difference. So look for what fits you it's not all pay per mile.a penny or two less but will get you home,Or better and less expensive benefits.Make a list of 5 most important to you then see who comes closer.chances are your not going to be there but maybe a year or two until your experience lets you get a better opportunity

Look up JJ Williams or TWT or System transport. Always in the Seattle Tacoma area
