I've also worked at crst and Schneider, neither were for me. Schneider I was with for 9 months as an IC, I didn't like the way they treated us and the games they played with rates on there load board.
CRST, well I wouldn't even wish my enemy to go there. They had so many broken trailers and you ran nothing but team. 8 months of team driving and I don't want to team ever again. Had a good co driver, just that much time with anyone that you're not dating or is a family can drive you crazy.
As @Chinatown suggested, check out Jim Palmer and James J Williams. I would seriously look into finding a local school to get your cdl through of you can swing it.
Good luck! -
I started 6 months ago with Schneider, tanker division. Started me at 46 cents mile, loaded, empty and bobtail. The training was pretty good also. Maybe not the best company to work for but for me I can't complain. I'm getting experience in tanking and make fat pay checks every week. 63 mph does suck going thru Texas and certain states lol
Chinatown Thanks this. -
19D, what percentage of your loads are hazardous?
-
All last week were, but they were long runs, rte now I'm not.. some weeks I do haz somevi don't. I would say 65pct of mine are haz. But they are good long runs which make it possible for me to make a good check and spend my days loading or unloading much.

Not loading or unloading I meant, I rather just wake and drive all day on long runs

Do they pay more? I start CDL school the 20th and then go to Houston for Tanker.
-
I totally agree. I was worried how much loading and unloading there is. That could get old real quick.
-
I haven't unloaded my tank in a few weeks, I been lucky the customer keeps doing it. In the morning I got too unload myself tho. Which is nothing, I will throw some hoses to from my tank to theirs and air up to 30psi and 45 mins later I'm done hitting the road.

Now I can't tell you what's best, van , tank or flatbed. All I know is tank so far. But I always heard of u do more u might get more. So I choose this type work. It's really easy you just gotta be cautious and use your brain. Can't be out their flying around hauling a tank full of hazmat or blowing some customers tank sky high with air pressure
