I have with the last tire I blew.

It was on the left side of the trailer at the 70 MM on 50 in MD. The shoulder is rather narrow there and whomever came out to change it would’ve been risking his life, so after a quick survey of the damage I limped it another 4 miles up to a Royal Farms and pulled in there.

That was like driving on a square wheel, so roughly 15 mph or so under the posted was necessary to at least attempt to limit further damage.

Blown tire.............depends on the situation. If nothing is getting further torn up and not throwing debris all over the place I will limp to a tire shop, if it's close, or a rest area/wide spot. If the poop is hitting the fan I will do my best to find a spot that is as safe as possible for everyone involved.

And doing all that, got a cop on the side of the road causing a traffic backup, and that's better than the trucker just continuing on to the next truck stop to get the tire changed?

    Really???

You guys do realize that if you're stopped on the side of the interstate in a perfectly drivable vehicle, and get HIT, it is your fault, right? Triangles don't mean anything. Your blown tire won't mean anything. ESPECIALLY if your truck is perfectly able to continue on, and yet you're on the side of the road and someone runs into the back of your trailer and decapitates themselves, oh good luck with that lawsuit. Unless it's an emergency, you cannot legally park on the side of the interstate. Blowing a tire and a truck being fully capable of continuing to be driven to a safe location puts YOU at fault for any accidents.

What to do if You Hit a Parked 18-Wheeler

Also, if you're hauling hazmat, you MUST be able to safely get 5 feet from the side of the road. That may not be possible where you blow your tire and you MUST continue on.

Of course the exception is blowing a steer tire. At that point you're dead in the water. But blowing one tire on one set of duals is not an emergency unless the damage done by the blowout causes the rig to not be able to be driven anymore.

You are basically out of service at the point a tire blows. If your triangles are set up properly and someone hits you on the shoulder you were simply doing what the regulations require you to do. If you start digging around the internet and read what the lawyers have to say your cheap company is actually exposing themselves more by requiring you to keep driving to save a few bucks on a service call. All kinds of stuff online offering help to those who want to sue a company because their vehicle was damaged by a truck tire blowout.

Apparently you don’t know how to read between the lines.

Finding an appropriate or safe place within reason would be my choice if the situation is safe to keep rolling for a few miles BUT tooling along at 55 or 45 causing traffic issues for miles and miles is not.

Being on the side of the road with a flat does not put you outside the law, but continuing to travel with it does!

So last night, coming east up Eisenhower fairly late (8:30 or so) so almost no traffic. And what do I find? 3 different morons running up the hill in the center lane with their flashers going. I'm empty, so I have ~30mph closure rate, and my choices are to risk a ticket in the left lane or pass on the right. Flashing the high beams from well back got no response, as expected.

But really, you stupid ####s! The right lane is wider, generally smoother if you hug the fog line, and WHERE YOUR IGNORANT 30MPH ### BELONGS!

    /rant

    P. S. I'm sure it's no surprise that 2 of the 3 were running their high beams.

I'm just thankful I was in front of the nightly FedEx train of fools, or it would have been a real Charlie Foxtrot!

Just another day/nite anywhere on the east beach....rarely leave the right lane...end up passing 1/2 the industry on the right....
Hard as it is to believe....they teach em to do this

This week seems to be full of the idiot that thinks 1 mph is going to make a difference when they hit the hill.

Yep about 1/2 mile before the mountain they cut left at about 56 maybe 57 trying to pass someone
doing 55 and a 1/2. The traffic in the left is going between 67 and 68 so they are forcing everyone to brake hard and loose any momentum they had. Worse the grade starts right where they cut left and not one seems to be able to pull off thier pass but they stay there till the 3rd lane starts. Some actually do go back to the far right once on the hill but many will stay in the center and try and hinder you even more.
The few that actually move right look at you as if you should thank them for slowing you down for no apparent reason and then giving you room to pass once they effectively took the wind out of your sail.

4-ways in the rain is illegal in TN despite widespread use. 4-ways for non-emergency in CA is illegal, climbing a hill is not an emergency.
If drivers would get in the habit of looking at the regs instead of turning to random strangers to tell them what the regs say i would be better for everyone.
