I’ve had plenty of blow outs with zero warning. This truck had two explosive blowouts in the first 50k miles on virgin Bridgestone tires. Both times were road debris in the sidewall. #### happens.
also like it or not, I’m not risking my life playing frogger to get that chunk of rubber out of the road. I don’t even stop on the shoulder if I have a blow out, with the way people drive it’s way to dangerous.
More lies from the Safety Dept. on using your 4 ways.

Running on a flat tire is a OOS violation. If you and the company don’t mind the points I don’t either. But forcing you to drive with a OOS violation can get them in a more trouble than a few points.

I moved that one 5 miles further up the road so I could wait in the rest area instead of the shoulder of I-44.
Last night I got to my consignee and found a tire had gone flat. After I was unloaded I moved 20 miles to the truck stop. Had I waited at the customer for road repair I would have spent the night on the shoulder of the road.
Sometimes you need to make the safest choice based on the circumstances.ducnut, Bean Jr., Still undecided and 1 other person Thank this. -

The company I drive for says to immediately pull over(as safe to do) and wait for road service no matter what.
Now I did go a little over two miles to a Loves a couple of months ago. The drive tire(recap) had a hole in the sidewall and I was empty. Just eased along at 50 mph and yes, I had my four ways on. -
When I got to the truck stop I had 50 minutes left on the 14. Made the call at 1953 and tire guy got there at 2228. I could have made the call from the customer, but would have had to leave their property (food grade, gated facility, they locked the gate and went home as I pulled out).
Plus, I don't know many tire guys who will change a tire while you're in the dock. -
Oxbow Thanks this.

As a hazmat carrier if It blows out or if it goes flat we stop asap, dependent on a safety factor. No tire or rim is worth putting someone else in danger.
I have called highway patrol and sheriff's dept after a blowout for the simple fact that if I pull on the shoulder w 4 ways and deploy my reflectors somebody will be driving and not see a big flashing truck and hit me. Get a cop behind and they tend to notice.
Plus w singles just a short period on a blowout and your needing a rim too.Bean Jr., drvrtech77, Crude Truckin' and 1 other person Thank this. -
There is far less risk to life and limb if I limp it into a truck stop to get it changed rather than set out triangles and stop on the side of a busy interstate, sometimes for hours at a time.
