Hey everyone,
I understand that all companies are different and there are alot of variables but....what are your opinions about OTR pay compared to drivers who are home every night? My hubby drives OTR and is home every weekend; we are looking into the possibility of driving together in the future. We would like to travel OTR and be gone for weeks or months at a time. Please give me your thoughts and opinions. (I did a forum search but couldn't find a discussion like this)
Thanks
More $ local or OTR????

If you're going to drive team, you want to go OTR.
AND, you do not want to drive for a company based out of Florida.
While it would be nice to know there's a company based close to your home. Most of the smaller FL based OTR outfits I know, pay their drivers less than the national average. -
I've heard stories of local jobs paying as little as $14 per hour with no overtime after 40 in Florida. The local jobs in the Northeast pay quite a bit more and are difficult to get without knowing someone.
Florida OTR companys pay quite a bit less than the national average so working for a company that has a terminal in Atlanta might be an option. Most national companys pay quite a bit less for Southeast regional. Some companys pays as much as 10 cents less per mile.
My guess would be find a good reputable reefer company that runs produce east and west if you want to team. If you find someone hauling flowers or produce in Florida with base plates not from Florida ask them some questions. -
Thanks I have heard that Florida is a hard state. We understand seeing the country in a truck is nothing like a vacation but look forward to going out for long periods at a time. We have heard wonderful things about Interstate Dist. but don't know if we will be able to get hired with them being from Florida.

my father pulls for a smaller FL based reefer outfit and he is making MORE than .40 per mile. They are out there, but they don't hire noobies.

My husband is working at a company like that right now HardlyWorkingneverhome. He is working for a pinestraw company located in Florida; he will be gone 5 nights a week and only gross about $700. wk. It will slow down soon (like he's making piles of money during the busy season
so we know we have to do something different. I know the economy is terrible right now but it won't be hard to be doing better then we are now. Thanks alot for the help
