The material was hauled in by a truck or maybe a wagon.

That one was in service from 1871 to 1928 give or take. They built another one at at the slightly more southern Point Petre 5 miles down down stream. My grandparents bought the property in the '50's but it was sold ~2012 after their death. Hence it's current state of disrepair.

Billings Montana to Colorado Springs running the speed limits empty 620 miles then loaded to Denver 70 miles. Average pump calculations 6.84 mpg.

The lighthouse in Eagle Harbor, Mich. had tours. A nice old lady ( volunteer) answered some questions. I asked, "what makes the light go around"? ( no electric) She said,,,,"I don't know"! So I checked it out, you can go up to the light room, but not inside. Well, I made it halfway up the steps on the inside, no railing, no backs, and came back down. Apparently, it's like a big wind up watch mechanism. The keepers job , among other things, ( trimming wick, adding oil)was to wind the weight back up to the top, and as the weight fell slowly, it wound the clock spring, turning the light. Fog horn too, how did that work. It was a huge steam operated bellows. Now, because the trees have grown taller than the lighthouse, it's all replaced by an electric light and horn.

The light is long gone from my grandparent's lighthouse. Not sure if it was a flashing light or continuous but I don't recall every seeing any stuff like that in there. They rented it out from the 1970's to ~2010.

Actually Sandy Hook Bar off NYC has one that is active. That one is 20 miles range plus at night. You are not too lonely out there. Ships crowd the Verazanno some days.

Bean Jr. and 201 Thank this.
