another 3 weeks and a few more revelations about the company in general.
my first couple of days out I ran into a new werner driver that had 10 years exp. I wanted to Gibbs slap him, but I got the details first. he was hoping to train his girlfriend and then team up. she decided to quit and he stuck around, for all of 8 days. he was ran up into new jersey and spent the next 4 days running shag loads, he was on the phone with his dispatchers supervisor arguing about the situation and got talked into another shag for the promise of a "good" load. he did get a load 1200 miles going to Florida, I stopped him there.
"let me guess, they split it off of you after 100 miles?"
he said "no actually after 245 miles"
hmmm how did I know that? he was quiting and needed a empty to haul to Atlanta so he could turn in his truck.
I didn't get a chance to talk to any other werner drivers until right before home time. they threw a bunch of us in 2 rented vans so we could get home for thanksgiving. why? one of the guys had been out for 8 months solid, no break, and his mother was turning 100 years old today ( let's all lift our glasses to her, thats a helluva feat ) he told them months ago that this home time was critical and he needed to be home today!
they hemmed and fudged until he told them he was quiting, all of a sudden it all became possible. they came up with the bright idea of the vans.
there are a couple more reasons why things are bad and they won't change.
1. the directions they send you over qualcom are so hit and miss you might get one in three that are correct, or you can understand. I wrote one down for posterity *AHEM* (qoute) "go L to Spring ST tke a R go 12th st go L to Pennsylvannia"
go left to spring street take a right go 12th street go left to pennsylvannia
who wrote this? who knows! its cast in stone on a tablet somewhere in Omaha
if you work for werner GET A GPS! you'll need it.
2. you will have to deliver to some of the tightest docks in America, you will get there and see all kinds of carnage left behind by your predesessors and all of it will be marked by incriminating werner blue paint.
when you call and complain about the situation they will tell you ' no one has ever complained before' unbelievable!
I was told that your impression of a trucking company will be based on how well you get along with your dispatcher. I suppose its true, but my issues with werner stem from many other items I get along with my dispatcher.
