Don't pass up johnnys!
I dont think it will be open much longer with the white flight west .
Its one of only 2 old Italian steakhouses left in south 0 ..its a step back in time and the food is to die for .
South 0 was loaded with these places until about 10 years ago when the population shifted and and the founders died off .
The stockyards closing in 95 didnt help .
I love history ...did you know omaha was once one of the most segregated cities in the US until the mid 70s ?
Black people were only allowed to live in a 4 square mile area of north omaha and the schools were segregated...it was rigorously enforced by the opd vice squad.
Black people could not own or rent property outside of ames Ave to the north and cuming st to the south .
Or 50th to 16th from east to west .
Crazy!
The population of omaha in 1975 was 400k and they had 34k black people shoved into this area with 3 schools until 1976 until the feds took the city of omaha to court.Shock Therapy, IH Truck Guy, Suspect Zero and 2 others Thank this. -
Got on my soap box lol I know .
Omaha is still largely segregated these days but its voluntary now .Shock Therapy and Suspect Zero Thank this.
