Memphis with the bronze!!! Funny side story closely related to this topic. I used to work for a temp agency that took advantage of low class workers. I hated being a part of that and look back still hating my time doing that. Anyway, often during the application process we would ask if they had reliable transportation to go to work. 90% of the time I heard "I have my own car". As I'm filling out their application with a identification card. Not a license. At first it baffled me. So I'd ask where there license was. Most times never had one. Sometimes it's been suspended. NOTHING will keep people from driving lol. I always wondered if there were statistics on the amount of licensed drivers in Memphis vs registered cars. The buy here pay here lots advertise you don't need a license to buy a car there. It's crazy.

It's funny you mention that, because aside from housing the thing that most sticker shocks me is food. When I would forget salad dressing or want to get a milk, I'd go in a big box food store in Cali, and was blown away how expensive everything is. And I ask people about that, that move here, and none will cop to how much they used to pay for food, as to what they pay now. Or maybe they just haven't found Fyr's or Wal Mart ( especially with the add match ) yet.NavigatorWife, Bakerman and Waggledaddy Thank this.

Come shop for food in Hawaii some time. Even if it's growing here, they still price the same as what comes on Matson. I have to be crafty, and shop the specials. If you want canned food, Campbell's chicken noodle is $2.19 plus 4.75% on everything.NavigatorWife, Big Don, Dave_in_AZ and 1 other person Thank this.

I have a really good Hawaii story, that happened a long, long time ago, in a Pacific Fleet, far, far away that I will PM you some time.
I just spent $38 for almost an entire cart full of food. 18 eggs / $1.25. Grapes $0.69/ lb. List is endless. You can get a 4 pack of Cambell's CN for $2.25. Lol.LindaPV Thanks this. -

Please do. My mom was a bartender at Beeman's Center at Subbase Pearl Harbor for 32 years. I will understand your story perfectly.
I left Safeway with two bags of groceries last week. $110.Last edited: Aug 24, 2016

I believe you also have the highest rate of kidnappings per capita, correct?

Your life is cheap in Memphis. Have you gone past the Clementine Housing Projects lately and see 15 rifles total in a herd of black predator gang people on a corner there? Or along US 79 where a knife or gun will snuff you out. There are worst places around the USA than Memphis.
Phoenix is easy when you are already hardened from aggressive cities around the USA.
You want a special on aggression? Try Houston during rush hour. People will put their lives on the line to cross two lanes past your bumper as you are turning into them before you know what's up. Dallas at night still holds the crown for aggressiveness.
Even today Im still wondering how those two kids in a black madza convertable managed to pass me on a single lane S ramp above 30 W off 35E where I put my own rig towards the right hand wall and possible death to make room for them just prior to my trailer crushing and decapitating them as the center of the S passed us both into the final curve out. Im actually still angry with them fools. If They got kilt for being stupid, I would be sitting in prison down there most likely.NavigatorWife Thanks this.
