It's almost embarrassing to ask this dumb of a question but here goes...
I'm in the process of gathering the most basic information about truck driving.
My question is where do company drivers (like for Millis, Schneider, etc) park their tractors when they are done working and home - like if they are off for a few days or after work if they are home every night. Do they return them to their facility all the time or do they ever bring them home? I ask because I thought some drivers live in different states from where their carrier is based and I'm trying to figure out if I would need to seek employment with a local carrier or if there are other options. I've seen a few tractors parked at homes but mostly in rural areas and figured these are o/o's. I have no clue how this works.
Thanks in advance.
Most basic question ever: Where are company owned tractors kept when not on the road?

I take mine to the house when Im on hometime , we have a terminal a couple hours away so when I head home for vacation next week im gonna drop it there just to get a few issues taken care of.

Terminal in Modesto, CA about 30 min from the house but trucks there tend to get broken into.
All of the people i spend hometime with live in nice to so so neighborhoods, so parking there for more than a day would be out of the question.
What i do is park at the truck stop, or Walmart in town and have someone come and pick me up.
...after I've taken out the flatscreen and xbox, of course lol.c64basic and newbietrucker007 Thank this. -
Flying J, about 8 miles from my house. I check on it daily, lock both the empty trailer and the brake knobs on the tractor and pull the curtains. Never had an issue.

Depends on the company, Many take them home, others drop at a terminal. At my company they don't have nearly enough parking for all the trucks at their 5 terminals. If all the drivers quit tomorrow there would be one big traffic jam.

First company I ever worked for had a terminal about 45 minutes from the house so I parked there for home time. This was nice as I could get PMs and minor mechanical issues taken care of while I was at home. Also, I didn't worry about the truck being tampered with as it was parked on their secure lot.
When I was working as a local driver, the truck was parked at the terminal every night.
Company I'm with now doesn't have a yard near me so the truck goes home with me. I park at a nearby hotel with a well lit lot that the PD routinely patrols.
This is something you'll have to bring up when you start talking to recruiters, especially if you can't park the truck at your physical address. Some guys park at truck stops or store parking lots. Make sure you cover your 6 if you have to take this road or you may show up and find the truck....gone. Towed or stolen makes no matter. If your company didn't authorize your home park location, you'll be gone as well. -
You mentioned Millis and I drive for them, I take my tractor and trailer to the house.

It all depends. Most companies won t care where you park as long as its safe and legal to park there. Some companies require written permission from the property owner getting the OK to park there. Me personally, I park in front of my house eliminating the need to leave the house to check on the reefer. I just walk about 150 feet to the truck

I park it at the company yard in Horizon City, TX.
