Only dumb question is the one not asked, unless you ask a question like how deep is the ocean, lol.Anyway most companies will let you take the trk home as long as it is'nt for an extended period of time. Then in that case you leave it at the terminal so they can issue it to another driver. Then some leave their trk at the nearest truckstop attached to their trl. Some will leave trk at one of the carriers customers. Some carriers require you leave trk at thier terminal if live within a 50 mile radius.I always take trk home when im on the road so I can clean it out. That's when i do the best cleaning is while on hometime.

I drop the trailer in the yard and put the tractor in the shop. We have room for about 12 tractors inside, including in the wash bay, but only have 8 at the present time. Sure is nice in the winter to not have to get in a cold truck.

Gotta' be real careful where you park. I once lived in a HOA community where nothing was said until I parked in my driveway bobtail. Then, the crybabies came out of the woodwork, and the guy that complained the most was a retired truck driver ! My truck was clean and I came and went during daylight hours. They actually made an ordinance just for me, against parking anything over a 1 ton in driveway. This is the same place where I had my trailer stolen which was dropped about 2 miles away in an industrial area with the landing gear secured in the down position, which I checked on 3 times a day. I always preferred to park at the terminal if possible so I could relax and not have to worry about my truck and the responsibility. However, when leaving it at the terminal, you have to worry about safety/mechanics/drivers using it for any number of reasons, including road tests/temporary assignment for a driver to "finish his load" while his truck is in the shop etc. Mechanics also like to rummage thru trucks while on break.

I would never live in an HOA community. Way too many busybodies who spend way too much time getting their noses in other people's business.

At my company, assigned trucks are never used for local runs or road tests. If they are driven at all, its by us or the shop guys to and from the shop and when they connect us to an outbound load. Occasionally they are driven by Southwest Volvo employees when something our shop can't take care of needs fixed and it requires a trip to the Volvo shop.

I'm an O/O and I have 2 drivers working for me. I'll let them take the truck or empty home but not a load. Also company policy load is either in route to the yard or its destination. Nobody follows or enforces it..

Some require it left in a company yard.

I am in a special division and am charged with parking my cab in a secure spot since I am home nightly. Some in my division just leave them at a walmart. I park mine at a rented, fenced, storage area.

It's going to depend on a couple of things. 1. Company policy. Some don't much care, others want the truck in their definition of a secure location. 2. The ability to park your rig at home. We live in the country, w/ a very long drive way and a place to turn the whole thing around. The caveat to that is if it's been raining, the turn around won't work. Well it will...it will just swallow the truck and trailer. Not wishing an $800 or more tow bill, we park it at a truck stop about 30 minutes from home when the turn around is too squishy. We do take into account the amount of rain, and the weight of the rig at the current time.
