Thats what I was wonderin, if its just a water issue, problem could be solved rather easily I'd think... I dont need, or want one, was just curious.

whats the deal with the big wilson gum drop mounts?
Always thought they were a good idea for those big heavy coiled antennas, but some reports ive seen say they're junk...with no specifics.
Water/salt intrusion is all I can think of that could go wrong..or maybe unknowingly break inside?

Imagine a 3 pound weight at the end of a 6 foot shaft and how much stress that would apply to the plastic housing of the gumdrop every time you hit a pothole. If it wasn't shaped like a pyramid, but more like a cylinder, it would be less attractive but much stronger.
