A really simple reason for 20k on a single axle... DUMP TRUCK, no trailer needed... You put ALOT of weight on your steers in a dump. Steer tire blowouts take on a whole new meaning when you pack that much weight forward.

    Good point
If you have a long dump bed and only one lift axle you can easily exceed that 20k single axle weight

74,000 lbs empty. Have to be permitted just to drive the thing around with 37,000 on the tandems empty. lol

A friend of mine lost his left leg at the knee when a 445 exploded and drove the corner of the cab in on him. He was driving a DM Mack and that left him sitting in a less than ideal spot to be when that tire blew up.

That's wild. Seen 385's rip hoods and bumpers off. I don't believe we're allowed more than 7,500 kg on the steer axle out this way.

you can get more in AB if you can demonstrate that your empty weight exceeds that number but they don’t want you to
Load up the steer. I believe I permitted my heavy 3axle with my 3/3/2 for 18000 or 18500 - can’t remember the number exactly

I was around 17500 on my steer bobtail
