While the SLC area is a good for all types of truck employment. Local work does not pay well. Regional is better. You will find just about every trailer type running the area.

One thing about the he greater SLC area. The cost of housing has really gone up over the last few years. Even in the out skirts. All kinds of housing is under construction, but is 2 or 3 years behind the demand. Then add in the transplants with cash from the sale of a house in a high value area, driving prices up.

Depends on where you live & what well you're on. Lived here for 23 years, and our water isn't as bad as some other peoples, but we still don't drink out of the faucet.

We have a lot of Californians moving here as well as Canadians.

We have seen a lot of growth here in the 23 years.

Sounds awesome really. Visiting family in the panhandle today....low in the 60s highs in the upper 70's---bugs and humidity a plenty still.
Any area in particular to look into? Boise?

3 jobs I can speak about first or second hand in Reno where I worked or know someone who does..

    1. Tesla/JBhunt: Only 6 months required.. About 72k, home daily, avg 55 hours weekly, 2 full days off weekly. 100% D&H. 90% Cali, same route day in and out. worst drivers in the states and arguably the longest and most dangerous interstate mountain pass in the 48. If you don't chain you may starve.

    2. JCPenny/Swift. About 60k. Touch freight w/ manual pallet jack., mostly I-5 Seattle to San Diego. Originates in Reno though.. HOME WEEKENDS 100%. No forced chaining.

    3. Indian River: Food grade tanker. This one is interesting. Thinking about doing it myself someday. 2 years required. Nice new Peterbilt w/sleeper , no hazmat, out 7-10 days, western 11 only, less Cali than most! 65k avg.

I would not recommend moving to Reno half broke with family. The rents are approaching bay area level and increasing fast. However for a single driver I truly believe it is one of the coolest places to live. CDL rates galore at the hotels, and plenty to do, lot's of expensive furnished temporary style apts, or do what I did for a year and stay out 7-10 days and then pay $50 for a luxury room in any number of hotel/casinos, and eventually get it free if you play enough BJ.

The locals there laughed when I first tries to pronounce Tooele. Told me the proper way to pronounce Tooele is : TOO-WILL-AH. I thought they might be pulling my leg so when I got to my delivery over at Dugway Proving Grounds I asked them to say it. Sure enough that was it.

    come up to NC.

not real cold in winter and the cost of living isn't too bad, if you stay away from Charlotte ,where I live, and other major cities. pick the surrounding towns.
