I prefer a permanent dwelling.
Being on the road during the recession. Too many truckers are pigs.
Nobody will be crapping in my yard or washing their feet in my sink. Or taking out my front door. AND, I don't have a leash on my dash.
Move west young man.....(a little long)

BackwoodsGA Thanks this. -
I do not see it mentioned, but I would look at state taxes before I decided which state I wanted to move to. That alone leaves out NM and AZ. LOL
There are areas in most states that I like, but I would not want to deal with any area that has extreme heat several months a year. I would not enjoy having a home if I had to stay inside all the time. -
Personally. I'd stay east.
You can't buy a house fast enough around here.
New construction isn't even advertising. They're sold before the land is even bought for development.
I was planning on moving next month but decided prices aren't worth used when new is a better deal. Then I get told april. Now I'm being told August. If i can get a contract to reserve my build.
Problem I'm having with that is there isn't even a model to even look at yet.Upinsmoke Thanks this. -

I"m about to that point.
I did find a house that has dropped 50% since the bank listed it 4 months ago. Good sized property. House will need some work. And it's only 200 miles from work. -
I’ve been considering the UP, it’s beautiful up there. I like WI too. I don’t know if I could handle the winters even though we are not home a lot. I think the people are a lot nicer in those areas as well.
We’ll probably just stay in TN. We have no state tax, but sales tax is 9.75 on everything. Property taxes are low especially in the most rural areas like Morgan County. I live in Cumberland County and are property tax is under $700. If anyone has school aged kids I would not recommend this area, the schools are terrible and meth runs amok.
To the OP.......It sounds like you have a good plan. Get out of FL. Pick a place and rent for a while if you don’t like the area you have chosen you can move. I lived in FL for most of my younger years ( from 8 to 35, except for a few years in AK as a teenager). Every once in a while I get nostalgic and want to go back. Once I get down there I can not wait to leave.
Mainly it’s the insane amount of rude people ( in FL) and the over development that the land and water can not sustain. We were down there a few years ago and went fishing at the causeway in Melbourne. The water was frothy and there was human waste floating by.
Good luck and happy trails! -

A little over 10 years ago looking for a house in the region.
Was very fortunate and got in when the market was at its absolute lowest. Now we could not even think about buying this house. The other problem is, we cant sell either. While we could get a nice profit from this place, it would not be enough to cover the differences in prices.
Something that is overlooked around the area is the foreclosure rate. It is still really high. Most of these seem to be in the midsize 2500 to 2800 sqft houses.FredZeppelin77 and Upinsmoke Thank this.
