Sheesh. NM gets trashed by any and everyone on any forum I go to. ABQ high crime has nothing on the high desert areas/general SoCal area I ran away from eight years ago. I live in Clovis NM at the moment and make some okay money with the milk hauling out here, but am looking at getting into fuel hauling or some other consistently paying gig myself. I mean, the only truth out here is the job market being kind of iffy and anything that is hiring is usually where I'm at, or in the SE corner of the state where the oil is(One thing I have noticed is oil field towns seem to have nicer amenities due to oil revenue sort of flowing back into communities. Agriculture communities, not so much. Dairy farmers tend to be on the stingy side based on my experience with them).
Of course one thing about NM is the fact that we seem to have extremes on both ends of the income field. We've either got the poorest/least educated areas(Some of ABQ and anything not connected to the 25 corridor), or the wealthiest/highest educated areas(places in the north-central mountains like Santa Fe, Taos, Los Alamos and Las Cruces). I'd say give it a shot and you'll find a way to make it work. I know I did. But now I'm either faced with: going long haul, finding another local milk outfit(ain't gonna do that), find a fuel job in ABQ, oil hauling in the SE, or I might have to hit up CO or UT to get this mountain of debt(pickup truck and credit cards. No GF/Wife/kids either, I just spend like a queen, lol). Pay it all down and boogie on back down here.
UT seems alright despite the cold. Gun friendly and no issues with trucks, diverse economy, low rents in most places with population. I like Boulder, but the rest of that Denver metro area brings back PTSD of California. I mean, you move up there new and expect to meet some new neighbors. The minute they say: "We moved here from Santa someplace, CA.", I back away and run back into my hiding spot. At least I didn't have the displeasure of being born there. That's like a Scarlet Letter.
Move west young man.....(a little long)

On the strip it's hot because there's no breeze due to all the buildings.
Heat isn't noticed much in Henderson because it's on the high ground for the most part. Where I live, I look down to see the strip and have a nice breeze in my community most of the time. Streets don't flood in Henderson either during rare heavy rainfalls. We're on high ground and water runs down hill.Flat Earth Trucker, dwells40 and Bakerman Thank this. -

I'd like to know where the low rent in the population zone is.
Even the bad areas are over priced. -

I know another woman that makes $25.00 hr. working in hotel maintenance.
Both women are immigrants and came here with nothing. When a person has nothing, there's no way to go but up.
I know several more examples of success in Nevada. Much depends on a persons mindset and aggressiveness in the workforce. Some have only been here a few years and already have a home paid for; they don't waste even a penny in their daily life.Flat Earth Trucker, Muskie, loudtom and 3 others Thank this. -
