I bought an older John Deer dozer in western WV between Huntington and Charleston. It is a bobtail running just under 16,000 lbs,13' long, 9' tall and 6.1' wide according to the spec (link at the end). Need to day trip it across KY to a small town just across the KY border into central Tennessee. (290 miles).
I put out a request for a hauler with one of those internet aggregators and got barraged with high pressure brokers whose companies reviews were poor to say the least. Reading the mixed forum reviews operators give these brokers leaves me less than comfortable that the broker will be responsive to me and reasonable to the operator. I don't want to get in the middle of a he-said/she-said talk-a-thon with nothing getting done. Am ready to move, but I can flex the date somewhat to work with the operator's schedule.
Two questions:
1. What would be the smartest rig type to look for that can handle the dozer without going overboard on length? A friend suggested that a heavy duty rollback would be a good choice. Dunno. Good/Bad idea?
2. What is the best way for me to find an experienced hauling company that is capable to handle this machine with a reliable rig, honest in what they say they will do and insured? I am willing to pay above average for a quality haul job with good equipment and top notch driver that will work with me to get this machine on the ground at our farm without a major headache.
Thanks for any experienced suggestions!
Bruce

Maybe try a oil/gas field hauler. A mini-float (pick-up with a gooseneck) would do be able to haul your JD.

You might go ask a local dirt contractor if they would be willing to haul the dozer for you. Otherwise contact a local earth moving dealer and ask them if they have a preferred hauler that they use for their deliveries.
You can haul it yourself with a 1 ton pickup with dualies. You would need a trailer rated at 8 ton with sufficient brakes, probably something with a pintle hook. As to the pickup you might want to think about getting one with a dump body. -
You need a step deck with ramps or a RGN, unless you have a dock at both ends.
Call a name brand carrier like Landstar, Mercer, Dailey etc. you may not get the best operator but chances are good you will get a good trucker that knows what he is doing, and you will know they are legal and fully insured. -
Can't help but wonder what broker your talking about. Ha ha.
Try UShip maybe.lovesthedrive Thanks this. -
