I vetted, checked references, licenses and found what I thought was a legitimate company - I paid the deposit for my move from the West Coast to the East Coast - logged, packed, boxed, and prepped things way beforehand - the movers showed up and loaded my 1 bed condo in 2 hours -- then took it to their warehouse where it has sat for almost one month. Now I can't get anyone to answer when my things will be delivered. I am willing to pay someone to pick up my things from their warehouse and deliver them to me. From Vegas to Florida. Help?

    austinmike Thanks this.

Sometime when you hire a mover, they will, without your knowledge, give the load to some fly-by-night company. Then when your goods arrive, they won't unload unless you give them a couple thousand dollars in cash. If you don't pay, they leave and keep your goods.

Always take photos of the truck and license plates that picks up your household goods.

Yeah, unfortunately, regular people are unaware just how movers work. The moving co wants their trailers full, not partial loads. So, since you were the only person doing Vegas-Fla and they weren't sending out a partial van, your stuff is in their warehouse. Waiting to mix it with another load. The way around this is to ask questions BEFORE they arrive at your doorstep, like, will your truck head for Fla even with a partial load ?
I noticed last year there are "brokers" who advertise to move furniture and act like they are your neighborly friendly movers, but book your load, and send a couple goofballs with a penske rental to load up. And off they go into the sunset. Deception at it's best !

The FMCSA has been coming down hard on some of the shady moving companies. Some will get to your destination, then hold your goods hostage unless you pay them for some ridiculous extras. Others simply just disappear.

File a suit in small claims court for the total amount of your property plus damages.

I guarantee once they get served with court documents, they’ll be contacting you real fast.
