:biggrin_25516:You're probably driving a u-haul rental. Don't think for a minute that you're a truck driving fool. Just plug along in the slow lane and mind your manners. For kicks, buy a C/B radio and plug it in to the cig lighter (ch 19) and you can talk to truckers. Get a cheapie at radio shack for $50 plus an antenna. If you're renting a U-haul, check all your engine fluids before you even start it up. Sounds like a fun trip, don't do the drive all day/night thing, you'll just wear yourself out. :biggrin_25516:

Just keep it slow until you get adjusted to the truck. Before you start driving every day check the truck over to make sure it's safe. Check your tires to see if any of them are flat. Make sure you have a U-Haul book so if you have problems you'll have the phone numbers to call. Lock your back door with a good lock. Don't push driving everyday. You should be able to make 500 miles a day if you don't stop alot. Be real careful about driving fast even if the speed limit is 70 or so. Make sure you get a book on the motels or hotels you plan to stop at night. I've done cross country self moves 4 times and you should plan on stoping early everyday so you don't burn out the family. We stayed at Hampton Inns across the country and they are ok.

I never stopped at the scales on any of the trips and never had a problem with it. But those trips were years ago. But if the sign says you have to pull in then you'll have to do it. Just take your time and plan the trip out so you'll know where to stop. You'll do just fine and don't let any other driver push you if you feel it's unsafe.

    Dont buy a CB.

Just make sure the truck is in good running order, and keep your cell phone charged. Dont make your husband nervous by yelling and if you get nervous, sing to your baby. Baby and hubby will appreciate it.

And avoid going into any rest area that you cant see from the interstate. Avoid all rest areas at night.

One additional piece of advice. Be aware of the overhead clearance on the U-haul truck. Building overhangs, tree limbs, fast food drive-thrus etc will ruin your day and empty your wallet.:yes2557:

    Too dangerous. Too risky.

My advice would be to use ABF's moving service---basically the same as what you're planning except they supply and drive the truck. You still have to load/unload. And just fly, take a train or drive your car and relax.

Pls refer to the post about axles falling off also in this section.
