Yeah, sounds simple, problem is, I’m in NC, truck in SoCal. Would have to get salesman to hookup a loaded trailer, weigh, get shop to move fifth wheel track back, hookup trailer again, reweigh and then call me with results. Simple!!
Moving fifth-wheel aft of axle centerline on single axle?

IDK, I wouldn't even bother with a single axle. Probably get a better deal on a twin screw, and never have to worry about weight. If you ever decide to do something else, you already have the truck. And resale too. Single axles are a tough sell.

@KANSAS TRANSIT he really knows the ins and outs of single axle trucks and weight distribution, builds custom units for his fleet. Maybe he can give you the math to figure it out.
I ran single axle high-mount car haulers most of my career, no problem with the 5th wheel just slightly to the rear of my axle, although all but 1 of my tractors were longer wheelbases.KANSAS TRANSIT Thanks this. -
The question that no one has brought up is, what is the kingpin setback on your trailer? If it's at 30" reposition the TRAILER kingpin at 18"-24" and you will be good to go, any good fab shop can handle that and it's not real expensive.
If it was me though and you were getting a NEW truck, not just new to you, I would order it with a 6"-12" longer wb.
My trucks are 96" from center line of rear axle to back of cab, I wouldn't want any less!Last edited: Jun 18, 2018
