Looking for insight. Would be under Sysco Kansas City.

Been trying to go to an LTL carrier forever now, had no luck. Went to beverage, almost one year in to it. Still having no luck with LTL, would it be worth it to switch to food? Sysco has open positions in my area, but idk if I should switch from bev to food. Right now I make around 750 a week (and I’m on a keg heavy route) with no insurance or retirement. Would I really make much more money at Sysco? I feel like I’m busting my tail and not financially making up for it.

    Thank you for that!

I wish someone would’ve taught me how to set myself up good. I look at that and have no idea what half of it is. Lol

I work for another food service company in the southern part of the state and doubled my salary going from beverage to food. Expect long days and horrible trailers but if you have the right attitude you can make as much or more than most of the ltl p and d guys.

Sign up for the 401K Retirement Program and put the maximum contribution allowed into it. Don't do withdrawals to buy a new pickup truck or vacations. That's your retirement money, so don't spend any of it until you retire.

Any advice on getting on with an LTL carrier? I never get call backs. Besides getting hazmat and doubles added. Have tank already.

I used to haul Sysco stuff on containers. There were like 5,000 different items literally THROWN into the box. It was always signed "SLC". I pitied the poor fool that had to unload it. Anyone remember the gal at Sysco Cincinnati? The dock was lower than the office floor, and the secretary near the check in window,,,um,,. It all went on small wood too. A word of caution, what kind of food, like full loads or peddle it off? The plus there is, generally, it's small boxes, not heavy beverage, but will drive you nuts. They handle over half a million products, so be ready for that. Sysco is and always will be #1 with food service. You can't go wrong. Pay? I didn't think Sysco paid any better than anyone else, and there are surely less strenuous jobs, Sysco line haul would be better. Good luck.
