I'll try to rephrase. Keep in mind I've got very limited hands on knowledge when it comes to hh. And all of it is related to local/regional moves of construction equipment.

The OP asked if he should but a 35t or a 55t. Old man made a few comments about the extra things involved in loading 55 tons. And you responded to him that no one said anything about loading 55 tons.

So that made me think why else would someone buy a 55t vs the much cheaper and lower deck height of a 35t. So that's why I asked if there was other benefits to the bigger trailer.

I'll put my two cents worth in. 35t vs. 55t. I would do the 55t simple reason being it will hold up longer and better. Go with hydraulic neck. Not mechanical. You will thank me later. If your going to haul alot of different equip. Light or heavy the 55t will work fine. And later on if you get into heavier equip you will already have the trailer for it. Truck ,you don't have to get heavy specs. I have built and ran 40000 lb rears with light trans for years and they will hold up just fine. Just don't abuse it !

Well there’s a lot here, there’s nothing more to loading a 55 ton vs a 35 ton per se. A 35 ton has very limited upside beside tare weight. A 55 ton has the capacity of 55 theoretical tons in a specific concentration area but most people don’t haul 55 tons but they haul more than 35 tons. 50 tons used to be more popular until a few years ago. You can still get a 45 ton which is a very viable option I would personally consider.

My 55 ton has a 16” loaded deck height so that’s not a concern, when you’re trying to service customers with various machines I can’t see any advantage to a 35 ton. Now if you get established I can see having a 35 ton detach to move smaller loads without permits.

This is the 35 ton I was talking about, one of these due to price or just make the investment into a rgn. These trailers are 29k vs 80k for an RGN

You can buy a used 50/55 ton way cheaper than $80,000. You can buy a new 51 ton Talbert for less than 60. That trailer would be very limited

I agree that you can get them for cheaper used but most I find are abused and beat up. If I buy one I would like it with a flip to add some extra weight capacity. Plus new makes it easier to finance. I'm looking at a Pitts 55 ton with flip and pony motor and it's 77k out the door with FET.

“Most” might be but in this instance patience is a virtue. A Pitts is junk and has zero resale value. You can buy a new 55 ton Talbert without the flip for around the same money and add an axle later and still have something worth something at the end.

My buddy has a Talbert and it is definitely a nice trailer. Any other top tier brands you recommend?
