Hell I dont think you do. Thats just access to wiring.
-
Every king pin I've seen was welded in place
-
Except on tralers when you can move the pin. Just lift it up and drop it in the next hole that you want to use. Some decks have as many as 3 or more settings.
If it's too hard to oull up, hit it from the underside with a hammer or whatever you have handy.Yousername Thanks this. -
Relocatable pins are common in the heavy haul world. Like the man said, drop the trailer, pick the pin from 1 hole & drop it in the wanted hole, very easy way to change the bridge to move weight.

Please send a picture as I have never seen a moveable king pin and I'll pull a fontane stepdeck.
Not beleiving, just want to see one and learn something new. -
Sitting in Tupalo with a hailed A box. As soon as I get back to my trailer, proally Tuesday, will send pics. Have multiple pin locations on the flip neck & on the jeep. Along with a moveable pin on the trailer. Called a "Cheater", as per XL Specalized Trailers. More info on their web site.

They're talking on heavy haul trailers. I've never seen a movable king pin on regular step decks. On my Transcraft I cut the pin out and moved it forward to shift the weight rearward.

On a stepdeck they're welded in place. I'd think you would have to remove the entire plate where the kingpin is located to do this correctly. You're looking at a major project. Make sure you have a good welder to do this. You don't want to take any shortcuts and end up picking your trailer up off the ground.

I have seen one trailer that had an adjustable pin. That trailer was a 32ft van vintage about 1930's back then they didn't have sliding fifth wheels.
