I'll be honest, I'm really on the fence right now regarding going to school. With a somewhat spotty work history also, and the lack of companies hiring CDL grads down here, I'm not sure I want to spend the money and not get picked up by a decent company. All I have left to do for PTEC is take the written for my permit, but I haven't pulled the trigger just yet on that. I'd feel much more comfortable if I knew I had a good 9 or 10 companies that I could apply to, but I've came up with only five that will hire students here.
Like you, one of my positions is hard to document. I worked for eight months as a real estate agent before I got sick of losing money. I was an independent contractor, but since I never sold anything and made any income, I didn't receive a 1099. My time there can be verified by calling them up, but I hear so much about companies wanting tax returns, 1099 forms, etc, none of which show this job.
