Hello all! You may remember me from random comments around the threads here about, mostly asking questions about the same thing. I decided I would make a thread dedicated to my curiosity and own personal needs and stop killing off threads!
My wife is starting at Texas Tech in the fall, well August, in their graduate school. We live in Chicago currently, where I drive contract for the postal service, but I'm from Louisiana, so I'm used to sweat sticking things to things that are better left unsaid, if you know what I mean.
I've had my CDL for about 7 years, no accidents or DUI's and such, and am in the process of getting my Hazmat/Tanker endorsements. (I'm assuming they will transfer. Will call to check on that though.) I don't want to do OTR. Did it for 2 and a half years (Reefer/Flatbed), and I enjoy being home most nights. Or at least the weekends, reliably. One thing I keep hearing about is this black gold, so thought I'd put out some feelers as some lady used to say, and see if anyone of you nice folks had any suggestions on where some good places to look for a job would be.
So, to summerize!
Living in Chicago, moving to Lubbock.
Need work for food and underwear.
Seven years straight CDL experience, including local and OTR.
In the process of getting Hazmat/Tanker
Work for the Post Office, more or less, and just had my 4 year license renewed so my background is clean.
Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated!
Moving to the Lubbock area soon; Suggestions?

United Supermarkets is hq in Lubbock, their warehouse and dc is run by an outside outfit. Would be worth a call. They are a fast growing company. Just call the main number and ask. In perishables most execs and managers are tech grads, be sure to play that card it will helpthere
Affiliated foods is in Amarillo, they might be an option -
desertballs and HeWhoMustNotBeNamed Thank this. -
You shouldn't have any problems finding a crude hauling gig near Lubbock. Go knock on some oilfield services' doors when you get there.

Thanks for the replies so far, guys!
D o g, would it be worth it to go ahead and get it, and then get the 90-day temp when I move? Or do you get the 90-day temp even if you don't already possess the endorsement from another state? If I click on that link, maybe it would tell me... lol. -
If you get or got your hazmat , try Rip Griffin...they haul fuel around the West Texas area..

If you don't mind a little bit of a drive and want to work in the oilpatch, you need to check the different companies around Seminole. You don't need to have your hazmat to haul production water here. I live some northwest of Lubbock and work in Seminole; it isn't commuter distance from my place but I know a few drivers that do it from Lubbock.

What about Basic at Loco Hills, NM?

I was thinking of relocating from NY to Lubbok how is the pay and living expenses

Depends on what qualifications you have...there really isn't any oilfield work in or around Lubbock to speak of; you'd have to commute at least an hour and a half for oilfield work. The real boom is more south toward San Angelo.
