And where did I say anything about driving for maintenance? I said going home/ to the terminal at the end of the day/to temporary lodging as in a hotel. IE, you are done working and off duty.

Just trying clear up the confusion.......
Yes you can go to lodging/home......"Off duty" and flag it as "Off Duty/Driving".....
The whole purpose of logging and flagging is to CYA......in other words, account for your whereabouts.
You log your reset at home on Line 1 and flag it "Off Duty/Home" right????
It's all part of owning a CDL...Uncle Sugar has a very short leash on your neck and every other driver who maintains a logbook. -

OK, what i meant as far as the jockey example, for clarification as it applies to this post is:
If you have a CDL AND you drive on public highways AND you either jockey or otherwise operate a 26,001 lbs or more commercial vehicle on private property THEN i'm pretty sure that any of this driving on private property MUST be logged line 3.
i think this topic basically boils down to: If you go into violation on private property BUT you take a 10 hour break before ever moving back on to public roadways, then i think you'll be alright if stopped at a scale or answering to your safety department? -
Not sure on that. I mean, if you log driving after your 11/14 but then take a 10 hour break, then drive off the property and get pulled into a scale, I'm pretty sure DOT could still give you a ticket. What they probably can't do is put you OOS since you did take a 10 hour break.
As far as being busted while on private property, from what I have heard the only way that can happen is if the owner of the property calls the police. -
wow there is a lot of thought going into this!

If they think they can give you a ticket, they will. You're invited to save your arguments for the judge at considerable expense... to you of course.

If you stay on company property and a CDL is required I am sure that it would be to make the insurance company happy. -
No CDL is required by law on company (private) property...neither is it required to log driving around the yard on line 3. (driving means "driving"...which is done on public roads. Moving around on the yard is just that...moving around on the yard)
Insurance company's prefer that you have a CDL on company property.
If you are an OTR driver ANY work you do on private property can and should be logged on line 4.
So many people "overthink" the logbook rules...why??? You only make it worse on yourself.Last edited: Aug 13, 2009
