I have a Bully Dog Watch Dog on mine, but Kevin Rutherford has been talking about one Camping World sells that is cheaper and they are getting to make a more Trucker Friendly version soonas in maybe next month.
I believe this is what Camping World sells for Diesel Motorhomes: http://www.scangauge.com/products/scangauged/
For a little over $150 the ScanGaugeD is alot cheaper than the Bully Dog WD that is over $800. -
sounds like a good idea
not necessary, we dont really need to know our immediate fuel mileage, but its a pretty cool gadget to have
especially if you want to know how you are doing going up and down hills and through windy areas, vs flat, calm days
maybe you can actually see the difference when running 55, 65, 70, and 75
it may help folks realize how much fuel they use depending on their speed -
I have the ScanGaugeD in my truck. Nice little device. Will give you a lot of options for information. Instantaneous and Average MPG, boost, gallons per mile and gallons per hour, cost per mile, gallons to tank empty, gallons used, and a ton of other stuff. And you can clear inactive engine codes with it. If they come back right after clearing, then they are active and need looked at. I had on code come up one cold morning. I cleared it with the ScanGauge and it never came back. My unit cost $159 when I got it about a month ago on Amazon. Definately a cost effective purchase.
Not intimately familiar with the BD module, but just from what I have read, the only thing that BD has over the Scangauge is being able to set the speed limiter. For the cost difference, not worth it to me unless getting their engine tune.Dice1 Thanks this. -
cowpie
just out of curiosity, what kind of truck do you drive and how does your fuel mpg fluctuate depending on speed and terrain? -
did you install it or had someone do it for you?
-
I installed it. It was sooooo simple. Just plug it into the ECM data port in the cab, run the small diameter cable to where you want the Scangauge, and have fun. I have a 2013 Columbia with a pre-egr Detroit 60 in it. That is the beauty of the Scangauge, you can watch and compare boost pressure to gallon per hour fuel usage and compare that to load and terrain, and get a good grasp of how your engine likes to do it's thing. It is fascinating to watch how the gallon per hour usage relates to the boost at various RPM's. And you try to see how that equates to your mpg and get a good idea on how you need to run to maximize mpg. But the Scangauge has a ton of other displays you can monitor. You can have up to 4 different monitoring displays visual at any one time. And it is very easy and quick to change display monitoring on the fly. Check out the ScangaugeD on their website and they show all the various monitoring it does for you. You can also download the manual for it there and dig deeper into what the device will do. It is a very good value for all that it does.
silver dollar, Dice1 and Clasix1055 Thank this. -
After reading Cowpie1's post, sounds like it does everything the BD WD does except the speed limiter and the only other thing is the BD WD can be upgraded to the ECM programmer, but that is only if you are ever thinking about being able to reprogram the ECM with something the shops can't erase from it. They can reset the ECM, but with the BD programmer you can put it back to the BD custom tune you choose.
Like Cowpie! said, for $159 you can't go wrong compared to over $800 for the BD WD and over $2600 for the BD programmer. -
Kevin Rutherford reported on his site that the newer Trucker version will be out near the end of January.
-
why would you want a speed limiter on your truck?
