MPG Test

    My PFP is at the 6cpm mark already but I'd like to have a little more padding on my mpg numbers. I am curious as to what to what speed everyone runs to get the most miles per gallon. Someone once told me that they run 55 no matter what. When I do that my truck like to downshift way too much. I have heard some drivers say they can run 65 or 68 and still get over 7 miles a gallon. I just wanted to know what the average you guys drive to get the most miles per gallon compared to your speed.

    It all depends on how is your truck set up.... Gears, ratio, tire size, torque and some other factors

    I understand that part but I am assuming that all of our trucks in the company are pretty much the same

    What kind of MPG do you get? Does your truck run sluggish? It could have some problems with DPF or EGR... Also if you run north, trucks do tend to lose MPG in winter months for many reasons

    Best way is trial and error. Try different speeds, you start to consume more fuel once your over 60mph. Also check with your company, a lot of companys have their trucks set up to get get the best mpg at a certain speed

    Many people don't realize how important it is to keep tires inflated to get the best performance and fuel mileage. I often do D & H and most of the time I find low air pressures. Dirty air filter is another often overlooked item. Proper maintenance is vital. But the most influential piece to the GPM puzzle is the operator. Just one example of this: Why on earth do drivers run through the truck stops at 30 mph, with the engine screaming at 1800 RPM? Another is running 75 mph for 600 miles to get the load there to end up sitting for 12 hours waiting to be off loaded, makes no sense. If they would have run at 62 MPH most likely end up with 80 or 100 more bucks in their pocket.

    I'm one of those owner/op's that runs 75+ mph. My customers freight has to go it's on a very tight schedule. I run 700 mi in 10 hrs including 30 min break. Granted i only run from kansas city to cheyenne to denver back to kansas city. If not bucking a head wind i avg 6.6 mpg on a round loaded 90"% at gross. I get paid well to do it too. Trk is set up for high speed 18 spd and 2.64 gearing. If i had the time i would slow down a little. That is why my customers don't use fleets. They pay well for a service and expect it. Just my 2 cents on the topic.
