I am 56 years old and was diagnosed with MS 14 years ago. Although I have my exasperation events periodically I am still able to walk and function ok. I was placed on disability only because of my previous profession which was carpenter/contractor. My doctors were afraid of the dangers the tools presented and the fact that I was having trouble estimating jobs in a profitable manner. In all honesty it was just taking me longer to complete the work when I worked alone because of fatigue. So my question is, what are my chances of becoming a truck driver, a profession that I've always admired, respected and always wanted to try? For 14 years I've been doing nothing and I am very bored and feel very useless. I know I can drive as I continue to do so done so and since my diagnosis I have driven across the country and back on a couple of occasions. Just this week, I made a 12 hour trip in one day. Not trying to toot my own horn but I believe that I can, be a truck driver and want to know if there's anyone out there with similar circumstances?
(being new to this website , I apologize if this is the wrong forum to post this)

I applaud your willingness to work, but my understanding (from watching the West Wing) is that stress and lack of sleep make MS symptoms much worse.

Not only that, wouldn't you be jeopardizing your disability?? SSI? Think you're entitled under SSI to earn so much per month before triggers a cut off. Should look into that. A possibility would be part-time so as not to kick yourself in your own rear. Less stress and not miss a knick of sleep. And a nice addition to your pocketbook...
