    Hello folks,

Little background. I'm 54, married for 26 years, 4 kids (all grown) had my own business in NC from 2000-2009, basically the economy bottomed out and my business went with it. My credit suffered. Now (since 2010) I am living in Charleston SC, am a foreman with an industrial sandblasting company. I am ready for a career change for a couple reasons: 1. My back can only hold out for song long doing what I currently do. 2. The hours vary, but the bills keep coming. 3. I'm very ready for a change of pace.

I have a question or 3 about MTI. I under stand that the school is $2500.00, with $500.00 upfront, is that right? So they finance 2K? My credit is as stated above, not good. What are the chances of me getting financed?

I've been lurking around the forums, and would really like to go with a company I can stay with for awhile, as I not a job hopper. Thanks in advance for the replies, I really appreciate it!

Have you checked into getting a grant from the state?

Also some local companies will hire you and pay for your CDL training although be very careful with this option.

Credit isnt an issue for the schooling, its paid back to the company.

Based on what Ive read a credit check isnt the issue. Its $2500 for the school and $2500 for the otr training. You give them $100 down to hold a seat at one of the schools and pay another $400 when you get to the school. All this comes off the total. You sign an agreement that you will pay it back during your employment at $20 a week( 10 more if you stay a motel).

Half of that is forgiven after a year while employed with them.

credit is not checked.. 2000 is repaid through payroll... the otr training is 2500 as well but if you stay for a year it is forgiven and you will never pay it. Hardest part about MTI is coming up with the initial 500 and a way to support yourself through school. You do dont start receiving training pay until your in the truck with your trainer. IMO this is a small investment. You can get in with prime or swift for less money out of your pocket... but trust me those companies will cost you MUCH more in pay or hometime or treatment. Good luck to ya!

Thanks for the helpful answers! So, bad credit one less thing to worry about. School is 5 weeks? So that would mean I would need to come up with 5 weeks pay, plus the money needed for when I go with trainer, plus the 500.00, very tough, but doable over time I suppose. I'm not sure what the pay is once they put you in the truck with your trainer?

Yes, Powder, I didn't really want to go with one of the driver mill companies, I would rather go with some one I can stay with for a while, and be trained properly. Thanks again guys, I appreciate it.

No school is 3 weeks.. then you have a 3 day orientation that will be about company policy ect. Its normally with whatever experienced drivers are coming in at the same time. Good luck to ya! Did you check and make sure there is no gov grants you may qualify for .. might pay for a private school.

Plan on 5 weeks pay set aside since once you get finished with the intial training you will go with your OTR trainer. Usually will take at least a week to see your first pay check after that. So you'll need money until that first check.

Check the Millis web page and the training pay is detailed very well there.
