MTI Training 3/4/13 Cartersville Ga

So far everything is as advertised. Plus all the info from other Millis drivers on the site has been dead on.

 

You should have stuck your head in and said hi. We have had a few former students do that already.

 

Well another Millis 500 is complete and all the guys in the class did well. Like any new thing it took a little getting used to for some and everybody had their favorite truck. Most of the guys liked the T2000 and didn't really care for the older model freightliner. We also got to drive one of the regional trucks so we would be able to have two to a truck. Like everyone had said coming up through the gears is easier to pick up than coming back down through them. Just gotta get used to the truck and find that sweet spot in the RPMs when you downshift. Coupling and uncoupling will be tomorrow with possibly some practice backing.

 

We spent today finishing up going over info and started going over vehicle inspections. There is alot of information to cover in the vehicle inspections but it seems that with some repitition and just getting in there and doing it that it will stick over time. David is taking the students going to Black River Falls out for some on road driving tomorrow to get them ready while the rest of the class is staying in the yard with Jamie to start working on backing. Also guys if you know Greg his grandmother passed away yesterday I believe, so send some thoughts his way.

 

Yeah, we really lucked out.

 

Friday saw six of the guys go out with David for some on road driving to get ready for their trip to Black River Falls while the other six of us stayed in the yard and worked on backing. We did straight line backing until a little after lunch and then started on the sight side parallel park, which looks harder than it really is once you do it. Next week the two groups of six will work all week on what they were doing on Friday and then we will switch for the last week. I'll keep everybody posted on the progress.
