i dont mean to hijack yalls thread, i just read the whole thing its sounds awesome , great job, my question to yall is im torn between a private school near my house for 5,000 dollars or millis trucking ? if you can please tell me why you'd either go with millis ( cheaper, has great trainging from what i hear, have to work for them) or private school ( expensive but offer 160 hours around truck at school and you leave with the freedom to pick your own company) ? thanks for reading

So Wednesday we did our night drive to Albany and everything went well, we all got driving time and got back at about midnight. Yesterday we all took our road tests and everybody in our group passed, so we are all clear to head out with our trainers. We have one day left and then three days of orientation. It has been a great experience and we have learned a ton, now we are all excited to get out with our trainers and fine tune all our skills.

Well if you want to work for millis and you don't have any experience you'll still have to go through their school. We have a guy in class now who got his CDL from another institute but still had to go through training with Millis. He did tell me that the three weeks here have been ten times better than his other school, for what it's worth.

I just wanted to respond to semicrazy too. With Millis your going to have a job when finished with the school part unless something crazy happens. With another school you'll sign the forms to pay for the school and then during school you'll try and get hired by someone. I personally went to a CDL school back in 1997 and wish i'd have known of Millis then. I didn't have any problems getting hired back then but i paid something like $5000.00 back then all at once. Millis is $30.00 a weeks for school and motel --- a whole lot easier then all at once or the school payment with their interset rate included !!.

The biggest difference is class size imo. Most schools you are going to have more than the 6-12 that in a Millis Class. Fewer students means more behind the wheel time plain and simple. The advantage I guess you could say of going to a private school is company choice. If you go to the school for Millis, or Swift or any company that has a school that is who you will go to work for. Private school you start applying where ever. I would never attend a private school or company school that has more than a 6 to 1 student/teacher ratio.

I was going to go with a private school but the majority of companies that recruit out of private schools are not on the same level as Millis. If you need to get a year in of experience otr training. Not sure you can do much better then millis for a starter company imo
