5 hours before we loaded our last loadJust one I took months prior to show the quality of the paint and it’s shine
where she landed Something most will never understand is I leaned up on the hood it laying there on its side and there was a feeling of hey you good.
What was left.
I left that tow yard that day with a promise I’ll come back for you . 3 months later I’m riding across New York headed to wyalusing when a feeling of hey where you at I’m getting worried you said you was coming back hit me that I couldn’t shake. I got mad all over I got on everybody’s ### I want my #### truck now. It was about that time I found the brown truck. Flew out there Jim picked me up at the airport in the middle of the night. I was restless couldn’t sleep I wasn’t nervous about the truck as I’d already made my mind up I was headed straight to Dodge city. I wasn’t even able to really visit with one of my greatest friends cause I was on a mission. I left Pritchett W.Va run straight through to Tuckerman Ar. Didn’t even go n the house just hooked to my lowboy. Teresa brought my new mattress and sheets out with Doc. A hug and be safe and we lit out. No plates no proof of purchase just an insurance card in the middle of DOT week. Hit the 4 lane between Leon and Augusta at high noon they was knee deep and cheap we drove right through. Made the tow yard by the 3 pm cut off. Handed the lady our 10k which was every dollar I could scrape together beg steal or borrow. Wind was typical Dodge city till I got around the corner and could see it sitting there the wind stopped like turning a fan off. I get my ramps down and he takes a wheel lift and backs her on. Says idk why you came after this piece a ####. I was fuming rats had called it home course no glass etc. I got 2 chains on it and headed for the washout to go to bed. Finished my tie down and sacked out. Bout midnight that hey I’m ready to go home felling hit me and by God we come to the house. Rolled in just before noon. Every friend I had offered to take me to get it or go get it why that wasn’t good enough I’m not sure. I can’t answer lots of questions I had in any of that. Please I don’t need or want to hear I’m very lucky. I understand that sentiment but nothing about that is lucky. It’s childish to hang on to that m’fer like a security blanket buts it what I am I guess one last photo the day I put my stuff in it.
Without the help of Jim I’d never have gotten it home. It was a then or never deal we was going farther backwards every second. I can’t even tag him in this for whatever reason. He is appreciated beyond measureLast edited by a moderator: Mar 29, 2025

He was going to head west a few years back and if I remember right the trip got cancelled or rearranged and I didn't get to meet him and I'll be honest I was more disappointed in that than when I've missed meeting up with some of my own family.cke, Cowpuncher575, D.Tibbitt and 18 others Thank this. -

I’ll promise you, that person has never built a truck with their own two hands, with money and parts they scratched together, because they had a vision, a job to do, and a family to provide for.
I get what you are saying.
My wreck wasn’t anywhere nearly as bad as yours, and was my fault, yours wasn’t.
Still, there is a connection with that truck that will not let you rest.
To me it’s a sign of a man’s loyalty. That man will be loyal to his wife, his family, his work, go on down the list. That’s the kind of man I admire, want for my friend, and do my level best to be.cke, Cowpuncher575, D.Tibbitt and 14 others Thank this. -
