OK I've searched and searched but still don't have an answer so please don't flame me. I have a Cobra 19 in my jeep that is wired directly to the battery and grounded to the frame about 2 feet from the CB. The coaxial is run under the jeep at the driver side edge of the frame. I have the antenna (4' firestik) setup correctly. I've had the andtenna tuned with an swr meter and I got it to 1.5 at channel 1 and 40
Additional info:
I have an RF modulator running from behind the glovebox to the rear of the stereo.
I also have a power cable running from the battery to the driver side, through the firewall and under the carpet to the rear of the jeep to an amplifier.
My winch is wired to the battery as well as an air compressor.
The problem(s):
Constant static that is non-existant when the jeep is off.
When the jeep is on or off and I press the mic button, the subwoofer pops
When the jeep is off (power and engine) and my ipod is playing (and connected to the rf modulator), i can hear the faint music through the CB speaker.
Any ideas? This is driving me nuts so any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks,
D

id try getting a good electronic filter/noise filter ,not sure exactly what its called, but it goes on the positive wire to the cb. or you could try hooking the positive wire to a circuit on the fuse block.
-
First off, why on earth do you think we would flame you for asking a question???????
It sort of sounds like you may be running a "vehicle fire waiting to happen," here. Hopefully, for safety's sake, everything you have wired directly to your battery is fused. If not, you definitely have a hazard.
It sounds like you are getting "ignition noise" in your CB when your jeep is running.
Aw crap, my mind is gone here. Part of the solution has to do with your spark plugs and wires. But for the life of me, I can't tell you the right terminology to replace them with. I'm sorry about that...
The other thing that comes to mind here, in addition to the filters mentioned by another poster, is to shield your hot lead from the battery to your CB. Just moving the lead to the fuse block won't help with the ignition noise.
The rest of your question may be an induction problem. Try separating the routing of all of your electronic gear's wiring.
If all else fails, you could take you jeep to a radio installation shop. But they will charge you an arm and a leg. -
yeah the air compressor and amp are fused. I'm mainly searching for an answer as to why the subwoofer is "thumping" when i hit the mike button. I might try the noise filter but I'm not sure that will stop the aforementioned problem with the sub.
-
the sub may be the same thing that happens when you key up a nextel beside a small speaker it goes bezerk...
how close is the antenna to the sub? -
Alright, As for the ignition noise, there really is nothing you can do about it except turn the squelch nob up on your transceiver.
as for your subwoofer 'popping' when you key up your radio There's probably nothing you can do about that either, the noise could be coming through the wiring from your deck to your amplifer, it could be feed through the wiring system in your vehicle to the amplifer. Try installing a noise filter going to your CB radio, and capacitor to your subwoofer amp and make sure you're using all sheilded cables to and from your amplifer.
as for your music comming through your FM transmitter (I'm guessing that's what you're using when you say rf modulator..) I can hear myself talk through my car speakers when mine is on.
Your CB may ONLY put out 4 watts of RF power.. but that's alot of power believe it or not.. I recall reading in the oweners manual to keep the wires from tranceivers the hell away from the ECU in my car.
If your SWR is less than 1.5 on the channel you plan to do the most talking, and you're getting out a reasonable distance, I'd say you have no problems.
