- According to Caterpillar, "laboratory tests and engine disassembly analyses indicate the Cat C15 engines are expected to have a B50 life of one million miles with Cat's recommended maintenance.
- Remember the B50 life of one million miles. 50% of the engines should go over one million miles before overhaul, seems 600,000 miles has gone backwards
- I had a 1988 4MG B model Cat. It went 1 million before the overhaul, Caterpillar gave me a very cool "million mile club" coat and hat. Some of the old hands will remember cats million mile club.
Multiple sales guys claiming their 12-14 CARB engines won't need rebuild until >600k

Don't forget the c15 was such a good engine CAT stopped making them -
Not to mention, I'm not sure I like those B50 stats, as the International maxxforces have a B50 of 1.2 million, and those motors have an almost zero resale value.

KANSAS TRANSIT and pup Thank this. -
the reason for the Mack E7 recons is with the new REMACK program those motors will have the same warrnty a brand new MP8 does all back by Mack. which is better than a single shop glider kit shop in my books. MP8 would be at the top of my list if I was going 08 or newer just make sure it had updated injector cups

We have a bunch of MXs running around with just over 500,000 on them and I have not had to do anything more inside the engine than replace a injector here and there. However everything bolted to the 2010-13 models is a issue let alone the poor wiring harnesses and routing on Petes and KWs. Cummins ISX was given a brand new block, head and internals in 2010 and had many many issues. It was basically a new engine. They seem to have these issues fixed as our Cummins work is slowing down. As far as Volvo goes the pistons liners and head almost always go way over a million miles however the injectors and cups are lucky to make 250,000... I would go with a Volvo with either a Cummins or Volvo engine as the chassis has so many fewer issues than the others I deal with. These days the wiring and aftertreatment cost more to diagnose and repair than a engine overhaul.
KANSAS TRANSIT Thanks this.
